I did a magna flow. No resonator. Without a doubt the magna flow sounds the best. I had them put 15 different mufflers on. Lol they didn't like me very much and I got my $180 dollars worth.

I'd like to do that with like a 18-24" manga flow and a 4-6" tip depending on the pipe size

I did a turndown. Less piping = less cost. And I don't care all that much for tips.

Tune, and probably some RPG goodies.

Who are you with on Oki? I was there from '07 to '10 with MWSS-172 on Foster. Spent most of that time on the dirty firts MEU and coaching the ranges. Fun times. I especially miss the sushi and CoCo's....oh man i'm drooling now.

CAI is a fashion accessory. your factory airbox already outflows the engine. the CAI won't have the little sections that pop off the intake tube to reduce noise, so your engine will make more sound under a heavy foot, but it won't run any faster. PS - HP is a useless metric, as it is a function of engine speed (RPMs) [A 411HP gasser will never pull as well as a 300HP diesel, but makes more HP due to its RPMs]. The gains are always at 6-7K RPM, a speed your engine will see less than .01% of the time. - not to mention that the gains are always within a standard margin of error.

not to mention the fact that you already have a cold air intake - the airbox pulls from the driver side wheelwell.

in summation,
1. your stock airbox outflows your engine as it is
2. you already have a cold air intake
3. what reason other than fashion do you have to buy a CAI?

on drop-in filters - if the filter is the same size as the factory air filter but outflows it, then it isn't filtering as well. the only reason i could see for one of the drop ins is for the money-saving factor. you would only have to clean it, never replace it.

ReAwakening this beast! So on my 2nd deployment with my current unit now and I'm back to the same beast ...with all the tuning and mods I've had buddies do and report back on i decided to order the Volant Intake and Dry Filter and Scoop/SCTx4 tuner and 5 tunes from 5*/and the Diamond Eye Stainless Steel 4" Cat back Exhaust as well as some amp auto steps for the wifey!
got a sweet deal on the whole package from Stage3Motorsports Great guys to work with especially if your Military and they worked with me really well.I wont be back to put it all together until october unless my wife lets my pops do it which i highly doubt he has time so i have myself a hopeful project to do when i rotate back home!

chrisrennison21 ... but the filter and a tune will. Had those done as well.
99.9% of the "will help" is from the tune, the filter mod' adds nothing.
  • OEM, stock is already CAI.
  • stock, OEM air intake CFM is MORE than adequite for a non-uber mod'ed engine.
  • any air flow increase comes at the expense of filtration.
  • oiled air filters introduce the possibility of MAF sensor contamination (and loss of performance).
Regarding after-market ...
  • do it for the growl.
  • do in for the engine bay cosmetics.
  • do it for any other reason and you're throwing away $$$$$ (unless there's uber engine modification involved).

Yes CAI's are a waste of money and I pity the fools who buy them.. but I've heard that the AFE and AEM dry drop-in filters still have very good filtering performance.
