Trans Temps
Just completed a 500 mile trip on every kind of highway you can imagine running at 55 to 75 mph. Trans ran at 195 - 197. Outdoor temp in the 30's, solo (no trailer). I think you have completely normal temps.

Does anyone know exactly where the tranny temp sender is located on a Select Shift 6-speed tranny? I know the location of the sender can determine the red line for tranny temp. If it's in a location that will give sump temp, then 225° is the redline. If it's in the valve body the way it is on the Ford 4R100 tranny in a 7.3L diesel, then the red line is 240°.
The red line matters only when under severe conditions, such as dragging a heavy trailer up a steep grade at a slow speed so the torque converter doesn't lock - for example the last coupla miles up a mountain trail to a hunting camp. An unlocked torque converter working hard creates a volcano worth of heat that can overcome the tranny cooler(s) on most vehicles. And allowing the tranny to get hotter than the redline can kill the tranny very quickly.

I was concerned about the high temp. also. I've observed 207 degrees in summer temp. at high speed with 6.2 tuned. I bought a deeper aluminum pan w/ fins from a company called Transmission Automatic but haven't installed it yet. I'm concerned it may void warranty . They claim it will keep it cooler and will help performance . Any input on this will be appreciated .
The 6r80 uses a special synthetic fluid that can only be purchased from Ford. The new pan holds 3 extra quarts .
