None of that matters. Traction control is automatically reengaged after 35mph. Pushing the button in any way.... I know first hand because that's exactly when i spin. And it kicks up a gear then kicks back down once traction is better.

Have used this procedure from day 1 of taking delivery of my new 2011 FX4, and have NEVER had a traction control being re-activated issue (unless the button is re-pushed to do so).
.
This is how i do it, Something is kicking in and im betting more and more that its the wheel spin control. Not actually the TC/AT.

When this "other" system kicks in another light just to the left of the steady on one flashes. I believe it is an identical light to the steady on one.

Sounds as if you may have a traction control and/or sensor issue.

Just checked the 2009-2014 owner's manual and -ALL- indicate that if you ...
press -AND- HOLD the button until the flashes and then goes steady-on
that traction control IS disabled even when the vehicle speed exceeds 35MPH. *.owner's manual exerpt provided previously.

ALSO, please note that this is -NOT- true for RCS and ESC.

As stated in the manual the stability control can be turned off with the 5 second button push BUT remains at a higher threshold level to prevent a major incident like a roll over or 360. As speed increases the advance trac features kick in as danger rises with speed.
You can test this like this :
Disengage with 5 second push, get on a slippery surface, keep truck straight and spin your wheels up to the top of your speedometer. Now try it while getting your truck sideways, instant nanny attack to promote stability.
Spin your wheels all you like, just not while getting into possible stability sensitive situations (SSS, hey I just made that up, should get it trademarked )

If it is upshifting, that is not traction control, the traction control delays upshifts in my experience.

And in my experience, if you are on the throttle, it allows A LOT of slide, until you let off the gas. It's about polar moment, so if you are sideways and not rotating, then it leaves you alone. I learned this the other day on a power slide that turned into 100 foot long drift onto a sideroad.

Mine is a 12' 5.0 Lariat CC with the E locker and yes mine does the same thing. If I push and hold till everyting is off it I can stilll hear it try to interfear (abs sound) if I powerbrake it. It will still spin em but it fights itself. So

Had my truck in some soft stuff today and confirmed the light to the left of the TC Off light does flash and you can hear the one wheel spin control working via the ABS. Like hardhat posted once both tires are spinning you can still hear it fighting itself to make them spin at the same rate. If I was going to be spinning a good bit for more than a few seconds I would probably engage the locker to save the brake pads...

Are any of the tuners addressing the TC system? After off roading my new to me '12 yesterday I really feel its safer to have the TC disengage automatically anytime the 4wd is engaged.I would rather have the option to turn it back on if I choose in 4wd. A couple times I forgot to go through the button pushing process after shutting truck off and found myself either stuck in a couple inches of snow or unable to climb even the slightest of inclines until I turned everything off and was able to generate some wheel spin.
