Or here's a novel idea, try all three and see what works best for your truck, load, and conditions. Really, it's not that hard. Just remember the brake is on the left and the gas is on the right!
I'm not sure who you are referring to but either way it must be a B&TCH to be so damn perfect!!

Just to lighten the mood... I read the manual front to back and could not find the statement that it isn't a requirement to use tow/haul.

I know I'm not making this up and finally realized there is a towing tips or towing info screen that you can go into when you hook up to something with a 7-pin. In there, it said something to the effect that the transmission will not be damaged without using the tow/haul mode and will change shift points naturally due to the increased load. I think it also mentions increased fuel economy with tow/haul OFF due to the lower shift points.

Anybody hooking up to a 7-pin soon that can verify I won't tow anything that big until spring.

Either way, I don't think tow/haul is necessary for a 3k boat, particularly with an eco.

buck, thats what i thought, with the max tow 3.73 gears, i would assume this truck could pull a 3k bass boat on a flat surface pretty good w/o having to engage the tow/haul. On my old truck the T/H mode just locked out upper gear and made the other gears harder to shift and swallowed the gas. I will try w/o first and if it seems like it is struggling then on goes the T/H mode. Coming from a Super Duty to this turbo engine is going to be interesting on how it will tow.

It won't struggle pulling without tow/haul. Watch the rpms and see if you the torque converter locks/and unlocks some (especially on hills).

As mentioned earlier, this trans is nothing like your old trucks tow/haul. It doesn't lock out top gear, and in my experience, you will actually get better mpg since the torque convertor stays locked longer.

I guarantee you will have the same towing experience with the Eco as you did with the diesel. Especially with only 3000lbs. You will be able to cruise along in 6th at 1600rpms all day long like it's barley there! The tow/haul mode on these new trucks are far more complex than just locking out 4th gear like your old truck.
As far as the opinions on not using the tow/haul mode makes no sense to me?? That's why it's there so why wouldn't you use it whether your hauling 1500+lbs in the bed or towing 3K,8K or 10K... Why assume it's not going to hurt anything? I highly doubt you will get any worse gas mileage than if you didn't use it while towing. Some have even said there mileage improved! Also keep in mind when you use the tow/haul mode it can also help in emergency conditions. You will notice if your driving down the highway and you tap the brake pedal the transmission will automatically downshift one gear and if you release the pedal and hit it again it will drop another gear in order to help slow down the load you are towing so you have more than just your brakes to rely on. So for me that little yellow tow/haul light is glowing from my dash every time i tow..

sounds good kev, i will use it and see how this truck handles. I didnt have the diesel in my SD. I had the 5.4Triton V8. Good solid engine and the muscle to tow. I only tow a 21ft bass boat with tandem axle. I am sure if my truck is rated to tow over 11klbs, this bass boat should be no issue for this engine/trans combo. Thanks for your input and thoughts. It helps to hear from guys that have used there eco's already towing/hauling. Mine has only 600miles on it. Trying to hit the 1000k mark, the manual states to not tow anything until i hit 1000 miles. Gives me a reason to cruise around town.

LOL!! Coming from a 5.4L in a big heavy Superduty to the F150 Eco is going to be like night and day. Your face is going to hurt from smiling so much after the first time you hook your boat up. No more 3500+rpm's getting up hills!! You will be pleasantly surprised....

I use tow/haul with heavy loads OR towing with the SD or the EcoBoost. it changes shift points for a reason, and won't hurt to use it. Its there for exactly that purpose.

Sorry, missed this question... 203 is the highest I have seen, no lie. With the torque of this engine, converter is locked nearly 100% of the time. Can't say the same about my old 08 GMC with the 5.3. When I was running 3rd gear, A/C on and hit a little bit of a head wind, converter would unlock. I'd let the trans temp climb to 225, then switch off the A/C. It would come back down, then I could turn the a/c on for a while. Did this for miles one day, on flat ground. Glad to be done with that

I will try T/H this spring with the 5ver. Can't wait!
