Default Towing 6k

I recently just purchased a 2013 screw 5.0 4x4 XLT. It was a former rental truck so it doesn't have the "tow package". I've noticed it also doesn't have the external trans cooler in front of the radiator. Heck it doesn't even have a hitch on it. My question is can I tow my car with this truck? It's gonna end up to be about 6k.

Yes.get a factory integrated brake controller, a quality hitch and mind your tow ratings. Good luck.

I plan on buying a hitch. Now then my next question is how would I go about putting a trailer brake controller in the truck? The factory wiring is not in the truck(at least I don't think it's there) for the actual factory controller.

Have you pulled the center dash apart and looked for the plug?

Yes I have and it's not there. Now I can't see the plug being hidden to much.

Do you have the flat 4 and 7pin trailer plugs at the back of your truck? If not then you'll be forced to go with an aftermarket controller like a tekonsha or prodigy. They're still fine but aren't as intuitive as the factory tbc, as it is based off the truck's brake pressure.

Yep. No factory tow package means you are factory limited in towing to 5,000 lbs. But get a brake controller and transmission cooler and you should be fine at 6000 lbs.

What's the best bang for the buck as far as a trans cooler and a brake controller setup?

The best I remember from a thread a few years back if you add the Ford factory TBC they will have to program it into the truck's pcm for it to work. You are probably better off with an aftermarket one.

You definitely want a transmission cooler if you are towing any distance
