If I went 65 on the interstate, semi's would be passing me. Plus it would take forever to get anywhere. Hell, I'm the slow guy going 75

Mine has 80k on it now..I live in country..I am the FE master...I hav FE mods on mine..2WD..20s..3.55..

23mpg every tank..any kind of road trip..goes to 25mpg easy...

My best was a serious road trip..27mpg..640mpt..I wanted a 700m tank..but didnt have the *****..still had 3 gallons in there..I had a ton of cargo in the bed loaded down..I can add 1mpg for every 1000lbs..so I should hav been 29mpg...

I want and think I can hit 30mpg on a trip @65-70mpg which is the sweet spot...

I know the 2.7 Alum can do it without trying..

I just put on a 2"leveling kit and 295/60r20 Nitto trails and I get 14mpg on flat roads and no traffic.

Seems about right, lifted and heavier tires are going to drop the mileage. What did you get before you did that?

Can't fight physics. The higher the distance between the road and the bottom of the truck the higher the drag, the larger the wheels and tires, the more they increase rotational mass, differences in tread can make a huge difference as well, knobby grippy mud trail tires have very high rolling resistance. Couple that with 4 wheel drive that has live hubs and all that rotational mass of the axles, differential and transfer case, and you can kiss MPG goodbye. Taking the tailgate off, which I see a lot of guys doing, decreases MPG too. It is needed to create a cushion in the bed that decreases drag. That cushion smooths the airflow over the bed, when its removed the air flow behind the cab becomes turbulent and acts like an airbrake.

2013 fx4 3.73 20's stock never had mpg over 18 no matter how I drive. Average for a tank all interstate is about 17 and around town about 13.5. It'll get 14.5 in town if I drive ridiculously slow but it's not worth it so I gave up trying to get good mileage. Interstate driving is usually around 70-75 and driving slower helps but it's usually only good for 1 mpg so I gave up on that as well. Really can't understand why there's so much difference from one truck to the next

There is at least a 2 MPG difference between 87 and 91 octane as well. The first 5000 miles I ran with 87 octane, and hit right around 19 MPG, switched to 91 after 5000 and get between 20 and 21 MPG(unless I have lead foot syndrome). I also run a 91 octane perf/tow 5* tune. Mine is a Screw Lariat with short short bed RWD with 3:15 gears. I also have an ARE topper on it. My lifetime average MPH is 50 as well. I have a Garmin Nuvi that records trip data and since I got it a week after getting the truck it shows my average at 50 MPH. My daily drive in on 55 MPH highways, with a short stretch between 30 and 45 MPH and lots of hills all the way, 60 miles one way. I set my cruise between 61 and 64 MPH and use that for the majority of the trip, and that is what gives me the MPG I get.

I can tell you that going 70 MPH on the interstate if I hit 20 I am lucky, but it is usually about 18-19 MPG on the interstate.

I see better FE with 93 then 87 as well..and the idle is smoother as well, truck is peppier as well..Ecoboost like octane..

Their are people that have hyper miled a 3.5 Ecoboost to 32mpg..I can almost hit that on the hiway...

I can see that happening. If the road is flat enough, few stop lights, and speeds if 45 or lower. When traveling to work there is a small section that it 30-45 MPH and thats where I see my summary jump up to max, so for about 18 minutes of my hour 20 minute drive I exceed the top of the estimate. All the rest of the drive it hovers right around the 21 mark.

Ford will not publicly admit it, but they do say the EB gets best performance and economy using premium fuel. I was told this BY FORD when I questioned the poor MPG the 2012 EB I had was getting compared to the Flex I traded in for it. I was getting between 21 and 24 MPG in my Ecoboost Flex, but barely hit 17 driving it on the same roads in the same conditions and driven the same way. They said to use Premium to get better economy. I did not believe them, but tried it anyway and they were right. The EB in the Flex is not the same EB in the F150, only the displacement is the same. I don't even think they use the same block. The one in the Flex uses a different head with different cam design, so it runs perfectly well on 87 Octane with top economy, where the EB in the F150 needs higher octane to get better economy. I have had 2 Flex and one MKT, all with AWD Ecoboost, and all three were consistently in the 20's, but the 2012 F150 4x4 and my current 2014 RWD are in the 17-19 range on 87. I switched to premium after 5000 miles on the 14, and enjoy 20+ all the time(unless my right foot gets happy).
