Thinking of trading my car for a new F-150
K guys, I traded off my 03 F-150 5.4 terd for a 2010 Volkswagen CC. Hated to see truck go, but 12 mpg consistently sucked! Bored of the car now, looking to step back into a new F-150. I am having a really hard time deciding between the 3.5 EcoBoost and the 5.0. I just have a hard time justifying paying almost full sticker for an eco boost because they are so popular. I am thinking they are going to be giving some seriously great rebates for the 5.0. I primarily will be just driving it and very rarely be towing something. Just tired of the Iowa winters with no 4wd. What does the 5.0 get for mileage on highway with no load? I would say the 3.31 or 3.55 gearing would be what I would get. Any info would be great, I'm sure there has been many threads about this!

You need to do a bit more shopping.... Rebates are typically the same for Eco vs. 5.0, or at most an extra $500 rebate on the 5.0. Should be about $3,500 - $4,000 depending on your area. And invoice price +/-$100 (before rebates) rather than sticker should be an easy deal to get on an EcoBoost.
For gearing, I'd suggest the 3.73 with the electronic locker, available either as part of the off-road package or included in the FX4.

Eco-5.0-Eco again
42k sticker, 34k with a small bit of haggling for an FX4 SCREW ECB...I put it up there with my 2004 Lightning purchase. I'm very happy with it...no matter what engine you decide on, I'm sure you'll be happy. Gas mileage for me is 16.7 to 18.0 giving an occasional flooring.

I just got the XLT scab with ecoboost but the sticker price was $40,058 exactly and I got it for $28,900. I also have the 3.31 gears and a very heavy foot, I'm getting 20.4 mpg and that is alot of slow moving traffic, on the highway I average over 25 mpg.

2011 5.0 4x4 screw 3.55 rear end.
I have less than 400 miles on mine and I'm getting over 21 hwy already.

Very impressive. I must say I was very sold on the EcoBoost but the 5.0 seems to be the way to go. On a side note, my brother just ordered a 2012 Mustang GT premium! Too bad his 5.0 makes more HP!!!

It's close enough that I'd make that call in a heartbeat if it sved thousands.
And I have a pre-greed EB.

It is just amazing how many conflicting MPG ratings I've heard from the ecoboost. One guy will say he gets 24 on the highway, the next says he gets 15. Same thing with any vehicle, I realize that and there are a lot of factors that play into that. Any real world numbers on MPG for the 5.0 for highway/city driving?

v8
Getting about 18 mpg in town with my 5.0 and about 21 mpg on the highway doing 70mph.
The ecoboost is nice, but it's a truck. Man up and get the v8 before I take your man card lol!
Just kidding ecoboost guys.

I also like modifying my truck. So pipes on a V6 just isn't my thing. So I think I will definately go with the 5.0. Just have to get a good deal on one. I found one in Peoria, IL for $30k. Pretty sharp looking truck. It's hard to find a decent SuperCab though. They're all supercrew. I'm not a supercrew guy. just don't like the look of the supercrew!
