Very good to note. I decided a little while back that my next mod might be fuel despite it not helping much in the short run. It should raise the limit on each following mod.

The deal has been worked out, should be picking up my truck this weekend.
I'm very excited to get started.

I know what you're saying...especially with the comments some post here about "a weird popping noise when I let off the gas". Ford went to great lengths to try to make the truck drive and act like a "normal" truck.

Give me the 3.7 cams, some big turbos, an extra 200 hp, and I'll deal with slower spool up and a violent burst of acceleration. Heck, I could even deal with those weird popping noises.

I need to figure out how to get a locking diff in this 8.8" and upgraded axles along with a 4-link. Do you smart guys have any links for items like that?

The 3.7 sure will sound better! I wish the 3.5 sounded like the 3.7. Probably the cams..

agreed - port injection is traditionally the way to go for power when fuel economy and low octane fuel does not matter. But the 3.7L PI intake manifold sucks, plus DI has significant advantages over PI and the ecoboost has a better oil pump! But thats not to say a 3.7L built right wouldnt win in a race. IMHO the magic ecoboost build would be the combination of both, it will take a lot of time and money to do it but it can be done. For years every engine has an increased displacement version you can hotrod inexpensively and effectively. Fords forever, chevy's for just as many years, the hondas had LS/VTEC or k24/k20 and f20/f22, the Mitsus have 4G64's, the skylines have RB30s... my dream spec would be:

start with 3.5L ecoboost cyl heads and a 3.7L shortblock -the 3.7L's will have 5% more displacement than a 3.5L so that right there is free power. Some people are going up to 4.0L but i see no point.. Overall the blocks, cranks and rods are pretty much the same, but the 3.7L has larger bore and the pistons do not have the DI scoop on the top. Id do a real simple build using forged rods, OEM bearings dropped-in, asymetric pistons like JE FSR or mahle for the ecoboost DI, and also an external oil cooler setup. (maybe port the oil pump housing a little bit to smooth out the casting flash too)

The NA cams are slightly bigger and more aggressive, so with a properly sized plenum tapered runner velocity stack intake manifold there is some potential. The question is whether the headache of the cam driven HPFP is worth the effort required to get custom cams made and whether the DI can help depends on the application. You can easily regrind the stockers to match the 3.7L and still have the cam drive lobe. big advantage to the ecoboost heads is the direct injection. This is a hugely beneficial for endurance racing at high loads like baja, road racing, etc. and also equally beneficial when low octane is the only fuel available. drag is typically a non issue especially since you have short bursts of detonation resistant high octane fuels like race gas or alcohol (methanol, ethanol)

also -- i think you could machine the 3.7L heads to accept the DI, and then run an external HPFP (maybe from a diesel? there is tons of room to drive i off the crank pulley..) so many possibilities!
