Default Strange noise from ecoboost

I just wanted to see if any Eco owners ever heard a similar noise. My truck around 2k rpm makes a strange rattle noise once in a while. It sounds like a bicycle chain rubbing on the chain guard like when we were kids. I had the dealer look at it several months ago and they said it was gravel on the heat shield and removed it. This of course didn't make it go away. I have 2 ideas, a vibrating heat shield near the passenger side turbo or the compressor wheel hitting the turbo housing. It has been doing it for almost a year so hopefully not a turbo. Any ideas? Thanks

I promise it isn't the turbo hitting the housing. Wouldn't do that but once at wot. Even the worst dealer could ID the aftereffects.

Otherwise no idea. Mine doesn't do it though.

I get something like that occasionally while towing. It typically happens when the engine starts to lug a little prior to down shifting. If you find anything, keep us posted.

I get the same thing, and you are right it's under load without a downshift. BUT, mine only does it running 5 star 87 perf/tow. Sounds bad, really bad.

I got the same problem on my 2012.
The dealer change the left turbo and the noise go away. It was the sleeve on the turbo it was loose ans the turbine shake.

Interesting, Crash, did you have the noise without towing? I only get it while towing uphill so the dealer wouldn't be able to duplicate.

Mine does the exact same thing lugging it without downshifting. The noise seems to be more noticeable in cold winter weather. My bumper to bumper warranty is up in the spring so I would like to figure it out before then. I already have an intermittent squealing brake compressor under the hood. Thanks

What's a brake compressor?

In guessing he means the air pump that keeps the brakes under vacuum when in boost since it can't use manifold pressure.

There have been several reports of the motor getting noisy on startup.

I think he means vacuum pump. The EB has a vacuum pump to supply vacuum to the power brake booster due to lack of continuous manifold vacuum.
