Southern Speed 5.0 Tune Results
I received my SF3 tuner from Southern Speed yesterday with an 87 octane performance T4 tune and a 93 octane performance T4 tune.
I ran a stock 0-60 with my g-tech and loaded the 93 octane performance tune to run another 0-60 but the traffic got too thick in the industrial park so I had to go back and run the 0-60 this afternoon. Besides it got dark on me last night making it too hard to tell if a car is a cop. It takes a while on the first load having to upload the stock tune to the tuner and all.
The daily driving manners are very good at light pedal. The slop is taken out of the shifts making them quick but not abrupt so they still feel smooth enough. It also moves up through the gears quickly not holding out any gears. This should be good for gas mileage. If you start giving it say a quarter pedal the shifts firm up more where you start to feel them and you are at 60 in no time compared to stock. If you floor it the tires bark going into second gear and you can tell it feels faster.
Stock 0-60 was 6.51 seconds. The 93 tune 0-60 was 6.02 seconds. That's a half a second (.49) better or basically 5 tenths. The 93 tune 0-60 was on a very slight incline on top of that. It was the only clear place I could find to run and I wasn't going to go downhill any so I would have to hear about that from the peanut gallery. Traction control was on for both comparisons.
I would definitely say a tune on a 5.0 was worth it for me. I corrected my speedo for the 20" wheels and took a half a second off of my 0-60.
I'm not saying this is the best tune out there because I have no other 5.0 tunes to compare it to but if it's not then it is real close.
Here is video for a certain someone who is so untrusting.

For some reason I cant open the link tried a few times. Times sound awesome! I think motor trend got 6.2 on a stock eco screw.
Where is southern speed at? I have relatives over there where you are at.

I could not open it on my iphone because it is a .wmv (windows) file. I am on my work laptop now to test the link out. My work laptop goes through a websense filter in the cloud so that is a good test. Both links just worked on my laptop.
The videos were made with my iphone but I used Windows Movie Maker to bring them down in size. They were originally a .mov file but it converted them to a .wmv file.

Just a K&N filter panel in the stock box and a 22" Magnaflow with the resonator deleted. You don't get much out of those mods. I had them cut the pipe so close to the front flange that the blade nibbled at it. Then I had them flare the inside of the flange and ran 3" back to the 3" Magnaflow which is attached to the stock 3" tailpipe.
I probably lost a tenth to a tenth and a half going to those heavier 20" wheels and tires. If I still had the 18" wheels it would have been in the high 5 second range 0-60. I believe it is still a little left in that tune that will put me in the 5 second range. It needs a few more rpms. It is barely turning more rpm than stock. I like that he left tire size, axle, shift rpm and such open so I can tweak it.

Awesome man! Thanks for the vids! Nice to see what numbers it can do. I know its fast but not having anything to get a time sucked. Now I don't need it cause you did it for me. LOL

I think you misunderstand the feet thing, that's your braking distance. It's measuring your stopping distance from 60-0. For that test you're supposed to slam on the brakes. You should be less than 200ft and preferably less than 150.

Good improvement but it looks like your shifting at only 6k rpm tuned, there's more to be had if you shift slightly higher.

I just noticed watching the video that the feet keep counting up after I let off the throttle. Good call. I thought since it has a longer distance for the longer time that that was what it was telling me.

You are right on both counts. More RPM should keep me more in the peak of the power curve (that is key) because the R's drop to about 4000 rpm on the shift.

The only run I have done return a 5.10 0-60mph with a full tank of gas. My truck is running super rich and was pulling timing like mad because of detonations . My 1/4 said like 13.5 at 103.5, but like I said the tune sucks *****. I have yet to try again because of these problems. Once I get a good tune and reduce weight, run a 1/4 tank of gas, drop spare and subs (combined about 400lbs), I see no reason why I shouldn't have significantly lower numbers. I'm thinking mid 4s 0-60 and 12s.
Edit, I forgot, I had my buddies tubular bumper in the back that weights about at least 75 lbs when I did that run.

I compared my g-tech at the track with my Lightning years ago and more recently with the 5.0L. It measured a shorter time by .08 to .09 seconds everytime and I was shallow staging which means the g-tech would start timing (at first movement) before my front tires would stop breaking the starting beam for the track timing. I call that extremely accurate. This is the first time I have used it for 0-60 or anything else for that matter. It measures a lot of stuff but I forgot it measured braking.
You might want to run about 3/8ths of a tank to make sure you don't starve your fuel pumps for a second if it launches hard.
Every 100 lbs. cost you a tenth of a second so I understand less fuel, heavy bumper and other stuff. Pig rich, poor shifts and all the other stuff in a super conservative tune is costing you big time.
