Default 6.2 Towing mileage

Since having the truck this is the first time that Ive actually kept track of exact towing mileage. My wife and daughter had a horse show so were were towing both horses. We have a 16ft two horse trailer and the two quarter horses and four people and our gear. I would estimate the total package of just horses and trailer at around 4500lbs give or take a little. Its an old early 80's heavy ***** trailer not a featherlite.

Also to mention we live in the western NC mountains and we were traveling to SC which is going from 2700 ft to around 900 ft elevation. Going both ways so you do gain some due to going down hill which has two tough grades around 6% and would cover about 6 to 8 miles in length. I was pretty impressed overall with the mileage due to the fact that I wasnt really taking it easy. Here is the screen shots from the trip. Almost half of this tank was pulling the trailer. The trailer mileage was reset just before this trip.

Don't forget he is AWD too. That's good for that load and terrain.

I will be glad to get that mileage. My Dodge Ram 1500 Hemi never broke 10mpg. I'm towing a Trail Lite RV about 6,000 lbs.

IIRC the Harley is switched into AWD, not default.

Pulls great, I actually like the low profile tires when pulling. I've actually pulled my kubota 3240 with loader and bush hog which is around a 9K package and was really impressed. My father has a 09 duramax which I've towed this with, actually it's his trailer, and I've been really impressed with the ford compared to it. A the end of the day the 3/4 ton duramax is the way to go with this weight due to the stability of the suspension but the 6.2 is more than plenty a motor. It won't pull no 12 mpg though, more like 8 to 9.

Haha, just goes to show how unstressed this motor is when doing work. There are 6.2 owners getting that MPG empty/unloaded! Not a very efficient air pump when tooling around town, but not much penalty hauling a load either.

The think I love about these motors, especially with the 5star tune, is the ability to lug these things. Heck I've pulled my bass boat up a 6% grade in 5th around 2200 rpms and still maintained 50+ mph. BTW Ive got an order for my wife an explorer sport with the new ecoboost. Looking forward to this little ride.

I Would get that mileage no trailer. I get 6 to 7 with my 8000lbs 30ft TT.

I thing my 33's and leveling kit are what kills my mileage.

The funny thing is I don't get a lot better mileage unloaded, most tanks are mid 14 to 15 60/40 mix. I have seen 19 on a 75 mile trip to TN though.
