ah okay I got ya. I mean people give prices to others on all types of stuff that don't sponsor the site so that's what I didn't get. But I do understand if there is some big back story that I'm not aware of.

Figured it was time to maybe start a fresh thread about Livernois Ecoboost tunes since the other one has gotten ridiculously long and many are having a hard time finding the information they want in it.. Just ordered mine from Rick yesterday and should ship out on Monday. Also ordered my AFE Stage 2 intake from Steve at AFE this past week and expecting it to ship on Friday.. I waited and waited to decide on which tune. Got excited when I saw release of SCT last week but then I saw the issues that already started right off the bat. That was enough to get me to pull the trigger on Livernois.. Also when talking with Rick yesterday he was informed that the MyCal device should hopefully be updated soon and will hold two custom tunes and the stock tune at the same time. This is a big plus especially for those who felt only having one custom tune at a time was the only negative about it. To me the best part of Livernois (besides the fact they have the most experience with ecoboost platforms) is that for the $599 price you have unlimited access to all the tunes whenever you want..Not having to pay for each individual tune like other places. Granted many love the SCT unit itself but for my application the MyCal device will be just fine.. Everyone has their own opinions and choice so to me there are no right or wrong tunes to go with but after reading all the positive feedback on Livernois for the past several months I don't doubt my decision for a minute..
The difference is, Shawn forfeited his Forum Vendor status, as well as being permanently banned as a Forum member, both due to his behavior here on the Forum. This puts both Shawn & the Forum in a less than optimal situation for discussion regarding SoCal Tunes, when discussion turn's to quoting prices & special offers.

Livernois "is" a Vendor on the Forum, which allows him to quote prices & offer specials.

It's a long story filled with booze, drugs, hookers, and molesting a teddy bear by the name of Raspberry Jam. Trust me, you dont want to know what happened.

Ohhh man, Rasberry Jam...I sure hope that he is getting the counseling he needs.

Basically, Southern Speed, Inc (SoCal)...you get quite a few revisions, etc. It's best to check Shawn's forum as that's the best and technically only way to discuss the in's and out's.

Basically right now I think all new tunes are T4 based (Latest revision). The tune can be:

Street: Less throttle tip in (touchyness) and slightly lowered boost than all out performance tunes

Performance/Track: Very light throttle and higher boost (can be whatever you feel comfortable with typically 19-20lbs max).

Tow: Just as it sounds, safe for loads over 3K pounds. Lower boost and lower tip in throttle.

All tunes seem to gain MPG's, All tunes can be had in just about any octane, ie: 87,88,89,90,91,93. You can run 88 or up octane fuel on an 87 octane tune. You cannot run the other way such as 92 fuel or lower if you have a 93 octane tune load loaded.

Most guys with tow tunes run like an 89 or 91 octane....and when they tow they put 93 octane fuel in to add some safety margin.

---the higher the octane you use, the better the performance and power because you can add timing, boost, etc.

Hope that helps.

Quoting a price of anything should have NOTHING to do with whether a particular vendor is a member here or not. Posting a link to a site should, again, have NOTHING to do with membership to this forum.

You, the Admins, have made this more than it should be. You are actively discouraging commerce and knowledge sharing. Re-read the guys post that set you off; he is starting from square 1 just looking to have a member help provide basic knowledge.

I strongly recommend taking a deep breath when it comes to Southern Speed.

@fcancer

I was just there too!!!
A great place to start is with reading up on the SCT tuners. They are a device that connects to the truck and allows you to upload a tune to the trucks computer. There are 3 to choose from:
SCT3015: basic programmer.
Livewire: A device that you likely permanently affix in your truck. Has a nice digital readout, too.
iTSX: a small device that you use your iDevice (iPod, iPhone,iPad) or Android device to control

The programmer you choose is really personal preference based on how much you want to spend... I got mine (iTSX) from a mod on here Franchi Motorsports.

The SCT device will come with 3 canned tunes. The instructions to load a tune to your truck are very straightforward and the operation is very easy even for a complete noob!

Then there are custom tunes... This is essentially your trucks operating system upgrade that gives your truck a whole set of new instructions for managing acceleration/deceleration, throttle and boost response. Some of the folks/company's tunes you will hear of: Southern Speed, Unleashed, 5Star, etc. They will all work with the SCT programmer. There is also Livernois (there is a separate thread on here about them). They have their own device you must buy/use as well as custom canned tunes to load to your truck. The tunes will run anywhere from $150 or so on up.

Loading the custom tunes onto the SCT programmer you choose requires you install a SCT computer program to interface with the SCT device. From the computer program, you browse your computer for the file and load it onto the device. The device is connected to your computer via USB. Once the custom tune is loaded to your SCT device, you are ready to plug the SCT device into your trucks OBDII port and upload the custom tune. Note: the SCT device may/will say the SCT canned tunes are no longer available, but, they are.

Lastly, when you are loading a tune to your truck, there are 2 things to be very mindful of:
1) Follow the instructions closely. Select the appropriate Octane based on the gas you are running. It is OK to run a higher octane gas than your tune, but not the other way around.
2) Make sure you do NOT turn off your truck (from the acc position) during programming. Just let it finish!

Tuning a truck is like turning yours into a new truck!!! The beauty of the turbos/direct injection is that tuning makes a huge difference. The gains are only to be believed once you tune the truck and drive it.

As for Southern Speed, the tune is simply wonderful. It is a great driving experience. I am on the T4 87 Octane tune and am very happy with the way my truck performs. I would not want to drive a stock Ecoboost at this point.

Al Kohalic,,theres something wrong with you

Now that I have a little better understanding what the livewire is Im leaning more toward the SCT or the itsx (I'm really not concerned with the $$,(but of coruse I dont want to pay for something I dont need)I also dont want something permanently attached While driveing around . Once the tunes are loaded in the truck, can the tuner be taken out?
90% of the time I use 93oct
Whats gonna happen if at fill up I have 91 tune in but fill up with 87oct??
T4 street and T4 tow has my name all over it

I'm hoping to get enought reading in today so I can order today tomorrow
Thanks soooo much

The SCT SF3 is removable. You load the tune through the obd2 port and then once loaded remove and store the device out of site. That's what I have.

You can program the truck and then disconnect the programmer from the OBDII port. If you aren't going to monitor the truck with the tuner then you are just as well to save your money and buy the SCT 3015.

If you have a 91 tune and put in 87 you might damage the engine.

Someone asked how long it took to install a tune. When you install your first custom tune it takes around 10 minutes to move the stock tune to the SCT device and install a custom tune. After that to change between custom tunes is a lot faster.

BTW as soon as you take the stock tune out of your truck and put it in the programmer you need to go to your home computer and back up your stock file. That way if the programmer fails you will still have your stock file.
