So... Can I add a CAI to a 5.0L without voiding the warranty?
There's been lots of talk about modding the EB and warranty voiding issues.
My biggest concern is using a tuner on these engines (specifically the 5.0L.) Again, there's been posts stating that Ford can now track the history of any changes - whether or not you revert BACK to original tune before bringing it in for any service issues. I MOST CERTAINLY DON'T want to void any warranties in any way but I'd like to boost performance "legally" (if you know what I mean ).
My current and future performance mods are as follows:
Current - Magnaflow Catback Dual Exhaust
Future - Cold Air Intake and SCT Tuner
I plan on holding on the tuner for a while because of the potential warranty issues but I'd like to get the CAI sooner then later.
With all that said, is there ANY information on this engine regarding upgrading the CAI and warranty issues that you can pass along to me?
I will most certainly ask my dealer but - there's lots of smart folks here - that I trust more. (Certainly meant no offense to any dealers)
Unless I get it in writing, the dealer can tell me anything but, if push comes to shove, Ford is the group that really has to support it.
Thanks

I honestly think that the best move is to ASK the dealer who will be servicing your truck. I also think that these 2011 rigs are so "tweaked" with the on board computers that ANY changes you make have the potential to cause issues. Things are not as they once were, where you could make a "mod" and get benefit(s)....now if the sensors, that are literally everywhere, monitoring every aspect of the truck's operation, do not receive the input they expect, problems will occur.
Not long ago I read a post on another forum about a guy who changed plugs in this 2010 F150 to something other than specified by Ford. His truck ran terrible, and the only way he fixed it was to go back to the specific replacement plugs indicated by Ford.
I might be wrong, but my instincts tell me that ANY mod is going to require some PCM reprogramming in order to get it to "play nice" with the rest of the truck.

a CAI is a waste of money. You will not see any cooler temps with the new one than you do with the stock one. You might increase flow, but I will be your Air inlet temp actually increases.
Hook it to a computer and you will see what I talk about. The CAI is almost as much crap as the throttle body spacer.

CAI because of the different sensor mount design may give bad data to the computer creating a lean burn situation. You should get a tune to recalibrate accordingly unless you like VENTED pistons.

IMO irregardless of what the dealer says if you get into a situation where they will call on a "Field Service Engineer" for a problem with your truck the FSE can and most likely will void your warranty. They represent Ford and will do as Ford says so as I stated this is my opinion....

My instincts tell me that a lot of folks do not realize that with the 2011s it's a whole new ballgame as it relates to mods and the effects they will have on the vehicle and it's warranty.
I anticipate that within a several months the forums are going to covered up with posts about how individuals "modded" their new trucks, and the mods messed up the truck. Further more, I also think we will see a lot of posts from individuals who didn't do their homework, and spent a lot of money on mods, that only served to void their warranties.
Lately I've seen a lot of posts on this, and other forums to the tune of "I've been modding trucks for XX years!" While some of them may be legit and knowledgeable, I will say it again...it's a whole new ballgame starting with the 2011s. The rules have changed, and unless you keep up on the changes and understand them, it's going to be painful and costly.

What a bunch of wimps. Do what you want to with your truck. A good dealer will take care of you if something happens that wasn't related to the modifications you have.
