Absolutely do not do what this poster recommended! He should be banned for posting this kind of

NEVER put E85 in your Ecoboost especially as some hacked octane booster.

There are a lot of guys doing just that with no issues, you just want to stay under 30% ethanol, more like 15-20%
The reason the ecoboost can not run pure e85 is due to our limiting fuel pumps/injectors, that is it.
Multiple custom tuners offer E30 tunes for the Ecoboost,

Lots of guys smoke, swim with sharks, jump out of airplanes, walk on fire, and forget their anniversaries. I don't think "lots of guys are doing it" is much of a reason for doing anything especially for anyone older than say 10.

Trying to blend e85 with other fuels to get a precise e30 blend is a fools errand. There is variability in the blends to begin with and there is no way to know exactly how much fuel is in your tank to make a precise calculation on what to add.

Hopefully, most people ignore the bad advise of trying to hack a blend together by adding e85. It's a risky move that could end up causing thousands of dollars. BTW, this is coming from a chemical engineer.

Lol, ok man
I don't personally do the e30 blend or tune but I have blended a few gallons of e85 with 91 many times and know many people who also do it that are over 10 lmfao, theres a lot of talk that some states will be going from e10 to e20 within the next few years.
BTW, my family and I have raced professionally for over 50 years.
You just can't be a dumb f#@k about it.

Great profile name "chemical engineer" guy LOL! ****ing dope smoker

Ignorance is bliss eh? 420 happens to be my birthday but go on being ignorant. Especially shows when you double down with the lots of people do it crap.

No one is going to e20 anytime soon. e15 just became a thing here in IA which took forever and most manufacturers that's the upper limit for non flex fuel. If it takes this long in the corn belt where the ethanol comes from you can rest assured its not changing again anywhere soon.

Back on topic, it really doesn't matter what's happening with eXX. Putting e85 in an ecoboost is patently stupid. But hey, you know people so what could I know.

Why do engineers always have to throw out that they are an engineer? Like being an engineer makes everyone else inferior? Seriously, one of the only professions I know of that constantly does that. Drives me nuts. Gf's brother is still in school to be one and already his **** don't stink. Every customer I have who is an engineer makes sure I know what they are within minutes of being there. Doesn't matter that I have a degree as well and have run my company successfully for 10 years, they are an engineer they know better than me when I explain something to them....even though they aren't in the field.

Ban me Biff, I work for The Largest Chemical Company in the world and like the Op stated he wasn't even sure he had 87 octane. I didn't tell him to go fill up his tank on it, and I even told him to return it to stock and run it out. I work with Chemical and Mechanical engineers everyday so I know how you all think, right Maple? And tuners do tune for a low blend just like stated above. So biff go back to smoking what ever it is that your on and relax, it will be OK

Perhaps because some people respect an educated opinion on a subject. I would say that, when talking about gasoline blends, someone educated on the processing and manufacturing of such substances might have a better opinion than say, someone who isn't.

Of course, then there are people like you.

You told the guy to put e85 in his tank. Something that the manufacturer says absolutely do not do. There are reasons why they state things like this in owners manuals. Remember, every single warning label/message has a story behind it. If it says don't then it's because someone did or at least thought about it.

Learn from others' mistakes. Or don't.

You don't want to add timing like that on low octane gas.
