Put mine on today- it sounds good from idle to about 2500 rpm. From 2500 to 3500 it seems to drone. Rattles the dash pretty good. After 3500 it sounds mean, like it has an exhaust system. I put it on at the end of the day at work so my first road test was the drive home. I may swap the factory air tube and see how it sounds. Maybe the filter is touching the inside of the box.

Have you ensured that everything is still securely fastened and the filter is clocked for clearance?
Mine had to vibration noise and then began to, did a once over and saw a clearance issue that could cause potential resonance.

I have a quick question.
I've been considering adding a roush CAI to my 5.0L FX4, but the only thing that is making me second guess doing it is that I have heard that using open element air filters can let dirt and dust into your engine over time causing scratched cylinder walls and leading to smoking and other issues down the road.
Does anyone know if there is any truth to this? I am concerned about doing it because I live in the West Texas Plains, its mostly tilled farmland surrounding my home town of Lubbock and we do have days here that can be quite dusty. I'm had a chance to ride in my friends 2005 F-150 5.4L with a CAI and I loved the way it sounded and would like to give my 5.0L that extra growl...But I can't help but worry about what I've heard.

I checked the filter it doesnt seem like its touching anything. I loosened the clamp and can turn it and it doesnt feel like it hits anything. I put the factory tube back on and left the roush filter and its a little better. I put the 5star tune in and only drove around the block. Dont want to be stupid with it on residential streets. Tommorrow on the highway to work, I'll let it stretch a bit. Seems like it shifts better. The rev limiter is gone too.

- the sock sheds water (not that I've noticed any, even with heavy rains).
- doesn't affect air flow.
- it's not an uncommon accessory.
- will stop the bugs that I'm seeing in the filter creases. *It REALLY SUCKS.
