there is a huge difference between LOUD and DRONE.
I also agree that the Roush is a cheaply made exhaust. they did very little fitment research, threw a couple sections of 3" pipe in a box with a resonator like they use on their mustang exhausts and rushed it to market. ever notice how many roush exhaust equipped trucks have issues with being on a lift and the right side leaf springs makes contact with the exhaust. a good R&D department would have found this issue and adapted the system before it hit the market, OR if they did somehow miss this issue it would have been fixed in later systems. what did Roush do? tell you to pry on the system when tightening it down. how many other systems out there have an issue with this and all of them use a full 3" pipe as well. this is the sign of a poorly researched fitment. It is one of, if not THE BEST sounding exhausts on the outside of the truck which is what I wanted, but the droning kept me away. And now the answer to the droning is to rip the entire interior out of my truck and and put down added sound deadening material, REALLY?

With all due respect to the people complaining it is too loud. It is a racing exhaust and says "for off road use only" right on the box. That is like a final warning saying if you don't like loud don't install. If it was not as loud as it is, I would be disappointed. If you did not want race car loud then keep the stock which has a nice rumble or put a borla touring on. If you want everyone else to hear the loud sound but not hear it in the cab then buy some sound insulation and install it in the cab.
2) I have put exhaust on everything i have owned since I was a teenager......half of which said "off road use only". With the exception of this Roush muffler, NONE of them had this type of drone no matter how loud they were outside.
I can handle the LOUD....I can't handle the drone and the thum, thum, thum, thum......while cruising at highway speeds.
3) I am not sure any amount of in cab insulation would fix #2. This is clearly a BAD design and if Roush actually did real R&D, these never would have come to market like this. People are buying this based on the Roush name and since sales are good, there is zero need to take action and fix anything. We have seen many posts from people who got blown off by Roush when they called in.....keeping people, like me, from calling in and wasting my time.
I learned my lesson on this one, to the tune of about $700. It will be a mistake that I HOPE I can keep others from making too.

You can buy the Borla mufflers and have a local shop run the pipe for you. I have not looked at it but I would imagine you could buy the full system for the 5.5 box and run a longer mid pipe if you wanted too. However, I would think a local shop could easily run some pipe for you with which ever Borla muffler or any other brand you want. I usually go with Borla, they have something for everyone's sound preferences. Only issue I have with them is they are expensive.
I guess I will just agree to disagree with you. I think it sounds great. It sounds like a race car. It is ridiculously loud and it sounds awesome. It is a racing exhaust and that is what I expected.
I did not put any insulation in my cab because I don't think it is needed. I think the exhaust sounds fine for a racing exhaust. That suggestion was me being facetious. I apologize if it insulted or hurt anybody's feelings.
I personally have not had any issues with dealing with Roush. The fitment was fine for my system and easy to install. I bought it pretty early maybe they changed it. The pipes aren't nice and shiny after 3.5-4 years but they don't have any holes in them or issues. The muffler itself and tips are still shiny. Despite my name I live in the south so I don't deal with salt and harsh winters. That may be a factor too. Roush has always been nice and quick to answer questions for me. However, never really had any major issues. If those people called Roush and told them their racing exhaust was too loud I would not blame Roush if they did not take there suggestion to quite it down. I would not go by other peoples experiences if you have an issue I would call them and see what suggestions they.

1) Borla does not make a kit for our trucks with a 6.5 box. I have asked them several times and they told me there is no market for it????

for what it's worth. the exhaust on all 5.0 trucks is the same length EXCEPT the 126" wb trucks (aka the reg cab short beds). not sure if that is what you meant by the 6.5' bed trucks, but if you were talking about supercab 6.5' trucks the exhaust is the same as a crew cab 5.5' truck.

In retrospect, I should have just ordered some Borla mufflers and had the local guy do me up a custom stainless setup.

I just recently purchased a new (2104) F-150 FX4 Roush RT570. The first time I drove the truck, I loved it, but the sound from the exhaust was very annoying from about 2200-3700 RPM's, and I knew it would start to get a little old for daily driving (for me, just my personal opinion). I am having the dealer install a resonator (SLP I think they said) to help with the sound and drone in the cabin.
So, I have a question about the Roush exhaust that came on the truck. I am looking at possibly buying 2 RBP black exhaust tips, swapping out the Roush chrome tips. Does anyone know the size of the tip inlet that I would need, or the size of the pipe that the tip would attach to? The smallest tip RBP makes is a 3.5" inlet.
Thank you.

I will be running two roush mufflers inline on single pipe. The offroad muffler was a little to loud. Got a cheap price for another roush offroad muffler. I will update when the muffler arrives.
