Default Selling Roush exhaust

Anyone looking for a gently used roush exhaust? Side exit. Less than 700 miles on it. Installed last week on a 2011 supercab 6.6 foot bed. Price is negotiable. I understand I will be taking a hit. I tried to like it. I can't do it, just too loud. My loss is your gain.

I actually decided to keep it. I put the stock resonator back on. I tried to delete the thread. I apologize.

So the MBRP resonator took the edge off but there is still some drone and the " thrum thrum thrum" is quieter but still there. It also did change the sound a little, and for me it was for the better. It now sounds deeper and is not nearly as obnoxious as it was out of the box.

Overall i am still not happy at all and this was the largest waste of $700 (Roush kit and MBRP resonator combined) that I think I have ever spent. I am pissed at myself for not listening more closely to those who complained in this, and other, threads about this system.

In the 3 weeks I have had it, there are parts that are already 100% covered in rust and spot rust on other parts. This kit is not well designed for our trucks, which is a shame as "Roush" is supposed to be FORD's brand........

Next step is to take the stock resonator to a shop and get them to bump the pipe up to 3" OD and see how that sounds. If that still sucks, then I will have to sell this for cheap and find something else.

If you want a super obnoxious, drone ridden, rust prone, Chinese made system, then this is the one for you... If you do not want any of the aforementioned, then buy something that had some real engineering put into the design.

I feel your pain. I'm in this system for $700 myself. I went to the stock resonator first which wasn't bad actually, however, I did not like the different pipe size and the fact it wasn't stainless. I ended up installing the magnaflow muffler that lambshot mentioned on the previous page. Drone is pretty much gone, produces a nice deep tone. If I had to do it all over I would go with what I was familiar with like Gibson or flowmaster. Live and learn I guess.

not sure if its relevant to you or not, but a Raptor resonator is a true 3". the flange for the y-pipe is not a direct fit to the 5.0 Y-pipe, but your Roush system "should" have come with a flange that you did not use on your truck.
if you can find a stock raptor res, cut the flange off and and use that flange that came with your Roush kit.
I managed to find a raptor resonator on Fordraptorforum.com for free, all I had to pay was shipping. I do not have a Roush kit, so I don't know how it sounds, but this could potentially be a cheap solution for you if a stock resonator is how you want to go.

Finally got around to putting the stock resonator back on. I can say, at least for now, that I am finally happy and am not getting headaches. It is like others have said...about 75-80% less drone but still sounds pretty good when you get into it. It is actually closer to what I would have expected out of the gate.

I am done dropping money on this system for now but I can tell you, either I am just getting old and things that used to sound great no longer do, that this system, as sold, is just awful and I would steer WAY clear of it.

Largest waste of money I think I have ever made in a vehicle to date.

on my RCSB I had before my current Scab 4x4, I experimented with A lot of different exhaust setups and I had basically the same experience as you. I used to have the mindset "if it's too loud, youre too old" but with the 5.0 I found out I am too old. lol.
Honestly, I think it is just the 5.0 engine. there is something about it, it's just a really "drony" (sp*) engine. I dont know if it's the high compression ratio, or the pipe diameter, or something different altogether. I ran my 07 mustang GT with no mufflers at all and had no drone, but the 5.0 gave me a headache with every single setup I tried, including stock muffler with no resonator, and raptor exhaust with no resonator.
the secret really is the resonator.

I really really want a roush setup because outside of the truck I think it is just THE most badass sounding exhaust for our trucks with the 5.0. But I have to be able to live with my truck for 15-20k miles a year and with the Roush that just wasnt going to happen. such a shame.

I am glad you have found a setup you like. I think the ideal setup for me will be the raptor exhaust WITH RES, and an electric cutout in between the res and muffler.

I last posted a couple of years ago, but still follow this thread and at least am finding a little bit of consolation that I wasn't the only one having this drone problem. As a matter of fact, it sounds more and more common now. I still have the system as I didn't want to throw anymore money into it or a different system, but couldn't be more dissatisfied with Roush's indifference after I contacted them. This isn't an isolated problem. And what's even worse than the drone is the absolute POOR quality of the product.

We can all talk about the compression of the 5.0 vs. the 5.4. I had Roush systems on both my 2007 and 2012 FX4's. The former being amazing both in sound and in quality/durability. The latter being obnoxious in sound and absolutely junk (in comparison with the Roush system on my '07) in quality. Rust / tarnish everywhere and trust me, I'm meticulous with keeping my truck clean. I frankly can't believe there aren't more people complaining about that just as much as there are complaining about the drone.

Suffice it to say, based on this experience and Roush's indifference to my legitimate complaints, I'll never purchase another piece of Roush junk again.

With all due respect to the people complaining it is too loud. It is a racing exhaust and says "for off road use only" right on the box. That is like a final warning saying if you don't like loud don't install. If it was not as loud as it is, I would be disappointed. If you did not want race car loud then keep the stock which has a nice rumble or put a borla touring on. If you want everyone else to hear the loud sound but not hear it in the cab then buy some sound insulation and install it in the cab.
