Are you sure it is the engine smelling like this? The AC vents have a habit of having mold in them, and I wonder if when you jump on it, either the air circulation is increasing enough to pick some of that up in the vent system, or the moisture in there is stirring it up....just a thought.
Lysol sprayed in to the base of the windshield while the truck is running really helps with that problem.
If it is the tailpipe smelling like that, then yes, its probably a cat going bad.

If it is something with the ac, shut your ac off 5 seconds prior to shutting your vehicle off. I've noticed that helps a lot with the rotten ac smell.

This has been without the A/C or vent running. I can smell it under the hood. It only had 1,500 miles on it. Since I bought it, it has always had some funny smell under the hood.I think I'll return it to stock and take it in and have the dealer look at it.

When I worked at the dealer, I always did notice that brand new cars had a funny smell when we started them up after we got them off the truck.
