Pure power 5.0 vs Turbo power ECO

I agree on the 5.4; and the hesitance on the 3.5 is well justified. There is a reason that this hasn't been done in a truck before, it can either be a huge success or a terrible miss.

Does anyone replying to this actually have an Eco and can give me some real decent info? Not looking for bs cause I will not give you any about the 5.0 I have. I am really trying to decide if I made the right decision based on common sense not hype?....

I voted for the EB. That is what I ordered in my truck. It is not only about HP, but torque AND where is the torque available.
The 5.0 is a great engine, sounds good when the go pedal is mashed and so smooth that you can't feel it running while sitting still.
The EB is a perfect engine for towing. Period. the 365HP / 420tq is almost what my 02' 7.3 PSD would do. It was rated at 250 hp / 500 tq. I don't know what the ratings were, but the new motor is very close to what my old truck was rated at.
Mine should be at the dealership on by the 1st. I drive around 35k a year so once I get it I will post some actual owners information.
Either way, you can't go wrong.

Don't be afraid, a turbo is just a fan that blows cooled pressurized air into the cylinders making lots of power! Use good oil (synthetic), idle down the turbo before shutting down and chances are you will never have a problem.
Start adding more and more power with a chip or programmer and you start asking for trouble. That's what happened to alot of the diesels with problems like blowing head gaskets, burning up turbo's ect.
I sold my 6.7 Cummins and ordered a ecoboost!

My 2 cents. I picked up the 5.0 for a few reasons.
A) I'm keeping this truck for twenty years and will eventually hand it down to my kids. I want a plain ole v8 that's gonna last without me having to service a degrading forces induction system.
B) the power and tech is lightyears ahead of the competition. Has more power than anyone in their right mind needs in a vehicle. Save the big boys for the track.
C) the nostalgia of the 5.0
D) can't beat the price
E) better fuel economy than my 3.5l charger. So I'm not losing a dime upgrading.
F) If one day I decide I want more power. I'll do the same I did to my last f150 and slap on a procharger. Then I'll leave you all in the dust.
Come on everyone. If you seriously need that much torque, don't you think your pushing your luck with a half ton? I'm so tired of seeing people post about their over loaded loads. If you kill someone with an unstable load - I hope you rot in a jail cell the rest of your life.
If you want to race go to a track.
Other than that. Enjoy your ride. It's your own who cares what other people think as long as you get in and drive to work not thinking you wasted your money - you won. Just like me .

I've driven both, in the same configuration truck, over the same "course". The EB felt more like a V8 than the 5.0 did...the torque curve of the EB makes it superior in my mind. At the end of the drives, the EB onboard system showed an MPG average of 17.9, and the 5.0 average was 13.4. The owners manual for each recommends a min of 87 octane, but I suspect that the EB would benefit the most from premium fuel. Some might consider that 4mpg advantage to be negligible, but if gas hits $5 per gallon as is being predicted, that extra 100+ miles out of a tank of fuel becomes significant.
If you look at a diagram of the truck/engine combos, there is just as much "complexity" in both....in fact if you take the actual engine out of the diagrams the schematics in each is nearly identical.
The subject will continue to be a controversy, but I look at it like this...
For those who believe, no proof is necessary. For those who do not believe, no proof is possible.

I drive 209km a day during the week. One hour highway one hour city both ways.

IN 1979 I enjoyed Star Wars and watching Luke Skywalker racing in his landspeeded arcross the desert. Figured by 2011 we would all have landspeeders!! I cannot predict the future !
