Pure power 5.0 vs Turbo power ECO
Just bought an FX2 with 5.0 and I was wondering why anyone would choose a turbo charged V6 over a full powered 5.0? Other than bragging rights of having a factory souped up V6, what are the benefits of having the ECOboost? Gas mileage is about the same and towing about the same, torque is the only thing I can find thats a little different. I also read that ECO requires premium fuel to deliver the numbers ford came up with when spec'ing out this engine which would make this engine way more to operate than the 5.0. So someone please tell me why?????

Eco runs on regular. Torque comes on sooner. Anyone that uses their truck in higher elevations will not lose power compared to 5.0( don't know exactly how much is lost but some is).

I voted Eco simply because I was sold on these videos on Ford.com. I was going to buy a 5.0 2011 lariat, but was offered too good of a deal on a 2010 plat, so I took it. I drove the 5.0 and think its a beast, but like I said, these videos that ford made sold me on liking the Eco over the 5.0, but I'm not hating on the 5.0 at all. Check out the vids. Here's the link:

I love the simplicity of my 5.0 and it has been tested in the mustang, the Eco boost I would at least give it a year to see how it goes. If anyone remembers how the ford turbo diesel in the past have gone, even though they weren't produced at a ford plant the 6.0 had tons of turbo problems.

I understand the o.p.'s question though, I wonder how hard it would be to crank the 5.0 'Coyote' engine up to the 440 hp they get in the Boss 302?
Still, it is very difficult to beat a turbo's low-end torque. Dammed things have monster torque from dammed near IDLE....lol!

Torque and fuel efficiency won me over. If I didn't tow then I would be considering the 5.0 still but the fact is I do. Lots of reason why the eb won me over but a lot of it is preference too.

If I were basing my judgement of purchase based on pure statistical reliability, I wouldn't touch any of those motors except the 6.2L.
However Ford has poured ridiculous amounts of money into PR and Proving for that little 3.5; I'd probably be willing to give it a try if I were in the market for a new pickup.

What he said. Torque of a diesel and fuel that is 40 cents a gallon cheaper. v8 didn't have max tow so a lot of us skipped it.

The 5.0 is anything but simplisitic IMO, it has just as much technology in it as the 3.5. The only Simplistic motor in the whole F150 fleet is the 6.2 w/o any of the Ti-VVT and what not. Of course its only SOHC but it is a much simpler motor and doesn't even have half the technology of the other motors in the fleet.
