I have a smell too, from day one.
I thought it was because the truck was new.
To me it doesn't smell like oil at all, It smells like propane

Was sniffin around after work yesterday and it was strong up near the radiator pass side. Maybe off gassing from the heated rubber/plastic?

I've been thinking; I had a Mazdaspeed3 that I drove for 54k miles before trading it in and I never had any of the problems that one typically sees on MS3 forums. Those forums are loaded with stories of smoking turbos, rods through the block, fuel cuts and worse of all , zoom, zoom, BOOM!!! A list of the owners "mods" was always accompanying the news.

Very rarely did you see a post about a totally stock MS3 messing up.

Over the years I grew to believe that the MS3 engine was a beautifully balanced piece. It got 263hp and 280 lbs of torque out of 2.3 liters, and when left alone, was a paragon of reliability. Ford had a hand in the development of that engine and I wonder if the Ecoboost is the same - so wonderfully balanced that just a 1/2 quart oil over full could cause problems. 3.5 liters putting out 365 hp and 420 lbs of torque sounds very much like the MS3 recipe. But the EB will do those numbers for hours on end! Sounds like a very delicately balanced system to me!

I hope blueoval28 gets back to us with what his dealer may (or may not) have found!
Just thinking out loud....

You can blow seals by overfilling, I would not run it that way.

Ok. So here is what I just did. Got home from work. Got out my mighty vac and sucked out about 500cc from the dip stick channel. Started up, moved to a level spot, let sit for 15 min and now the level is in the middle of the hash marks, between the dots. Think I will leave it there. Thats where I always set my motorcycles level. High revving engines at full mark would sometimes get oil in the airbox via crankcase breather tubes. Apples and Oranges sorta but we will see.

Went to the dealership today. They found oil residue in a crack or valley of some sort that splashed from the oil change. Not sure where because I looked all over top and bottom. They also confirmed that the oil was over filled by 1/8 of a quart. They took out oil to make it level. I will see if this solves the issue of hot oil smell!

Well now, as soon we figure out which oil filter this engine is going to be using, we can come up with exactly how much oil to put in and wind up with the oil level right where we want it. We might want to sticky that.

Kinda like the MS3 forums; as time went by the drivers of those cars got a feel for they liked in the real world. Mine took 5.5 qts ( a little
off what the manual spec'd) and loved the Pennzoil Platinum/Ultra oil. Never used a drop the whole time I drove it. That was the "sweet spot" for that engine; we'll find that spot for this one as well .....

I test drove one yesterday for a while and as I pulled back into the dealer lot I could smell this as well...
I thought it was very strange.

The model I took was an FX4 sCrew.
Other than the smell it was really impressive.

Bringing this one back to life. Had the car at the dealer the past two days to try and figure out a balance / vibration issue and the burning oil smell. They have made an appointment for a Ford Engineer to come out and investigate because, for whatever reason, they don't want to try and "index" the tires on the wheels. I told them that the vibration changed after rotating the tires and that led me to believe that it was an issue with the balance, but what do I know... I'm wondering if I shouldn't drain the oil that's in there and replace with synthetic that I have in the garage.

To the OP, did you ever get past the smell?
