oil smell on hot or cold start up
On my 2011 5.0 this was never an issue. But on this 2014 5.0 in which i get crap mpg's compared to my 2011 i have this oil type smell upon start up, doesn't matter if its a cold start after sitting all night or a hot start where I parked for maybe an hour. The smell is always there. Anyone else experience this?

Sometimes when the vehicle is not moving I can smell engine oil in the cabin. Not smoldering oil like a drip on the manifold, I smell oil like right off the dipstick.
Not sure where it is coming from.

What is your mileage? If this is a new vehicle you will definately have burn off of assembly oils, plasticizers, and such for a while. If nothing seems out of sorts with performance I would suspect a sloppy oil change tech splashed some and it's baking, or you have a sticky caliper. Smells are hard to diagnose from a text description because they are subjective.

Truck has 15,000 miles on it now. And yes its not a burnt oil, its an oil smell like you opened up the oil fill cap.
Power i guess is there, however i cannot spin the tires from a dead stop no matter how hard I try. Yea yea i know its stupid..... There is also a knock or rattle from passenger side, no idea if its from motor or not. I'll have to listen more carefully tomorrow if its not raining.
Definitely not a sticking caliper, i know that metal on metal burning smell.

Wonder if you have a loose emission line and your smelling the crank case vapors?

wouldn't even a loose hose still cause a CEL to come on? Its something to look for this week. I'll check around and see if i notice anyhting. One thing i've noticed is when is start the truck after it has sat for a bit, the sound it makes is just bone jaring.

If the knock is coming from the motor then I would take it in. Search 5.0l knock. A couple threads cover this in this forum.

Agreed. 5.0 knock is something you want to get checked out. A loose emissions line may or may not cause a cel.
