Just picked up a new 2013 Supercrew Ecoboost and the service manager recommended 5K intervals . He said these motors are real hard on oil.

He's an idiot. If you don't have to change a Diesels engine oil every 5000 miles why would you an ecoboost. My buddy goes 15000 miles per oil change on his cummins and has no problems.

If he were an honest man, he would be telling you what Ford requires, not what they (the dealership) wants you to do so they make money. He is just pulling that number out of you know where.

He's pulling that number because that's what's 98% of people Change oil at 5000 miles.

I've never done an oil analysis on either of my EB trucks, but using Pennzoil Ultra and Motorcraft filters has caused me to settle on 6k oil changes.
I was doing 5k OCI's but the oil felt good, did not smell terrible and this made me move up to 6k. UOAs of the EB engines on bitog show wear metals under control between 5-6k and fuel dilution is acceptable, not ideal but acceptable.
I realize that just the feel of the oil is not scientific, but my Mazdaspeed3 illustrated what shot to hel oil looked like! 4.5k oil changes yielded oil that was visibly wrecked and thin as gasoline.
This is not the case with my EB trucks. 6 to 6.5k OCI's seem about right.
Just my opinion , and we've already mentioned what we think opinions are worth.
