It's been well documented and if problem arises I should not be at fault.
My dad went by the "Change Engine Oil" message in his 2001 Chevrolet as his reminder to change his engine oil....he sold it with 175k miles on it. Ran just fine....for a Chevy.

But Chevy uses an algorithm based on how the truck is used, total rpm, average engine temp, average air temp, and average speed/mile to calculate oil life. It sounds like ford sets a count down mileage timer (just like my Tundra) for their "oil life monitor").

10k is fine IF you are a typical owner. But if you plan to keep your truck past 100k or five years, you may want to do it sooner/more often. I know I plan to keep my new one for 10 years, and 5k oil changes have treatd me well for a long time. I have never done an oil analysis, but from what I have seen online, @ 5k with mixed use driving the TBN drops below spec and the filter needs changed. For me, I know I will not change the filter or add a quart to replenish the TBN, so I may as well get it changed at that point.

Fords oil life monitor also does this. All this info is in the manual as it clearly states that a oil change interval can last up to 10k or 1 year, I never tow with my truck or let it sit and idle for prolonged periods, I have mostly four lane in my daily commute to work (40mi). I feel safe going going by the oil monitor and will continue to do so

Prior to hitting 10k it might be worth the minor trouble of gettin an analysis at say 6k then 7.5k and then hit the 10k mark if the metals are good and the TBN is still above 1.

If you want to go to 10k you should also mKe sure you have a filter capable...many filter manufacturers will tell u to go to 7.5k with theirs. Mobil 1, Bosh extended, etc... I really like Pur 1 and even they say 7.5k is a good range for their filter.

With the ECO arent you always suppose to use full synthetic??

Thanks, It is good to know. That said, when we had our Burb, I never waited the oil monitor. But the Burb also towed as many miles as it didn't, and most of the non-towing miles were grocery runs on surface streets.

I love oil threads. On the bike boards oil threads are much more emotional. The advantage of railing on a bike is you can hear/feel when the oil needs to be changed.

My rule of thumb: Change it early, change it often. Fresh oil is cheap insurance if you're really using the engine.

TRUE..SO TRUE, My son has a 2001 chevy the oil monitor is pretty much a 5k reminder. Oil monitors don't mean alot to me. Give or take its always around 5K since last reset. For me 5K to 6K according to when I can change it, I'm dropping in a new filter and 6 quarts of fresh oil. Like you said oil is really cheap compared to a new engine. Thanks for a common sense post!!!

Pennzoil YB meets Ford WSS-M2C946-A.
Synt Blend is not mandatory. As long as it meets the specs. It's in the Owners manuel.

ditto. On my diesels, I change every 10,000 miles with full sun Mobil 1 and Motorcraft filters. Cant go wrong. On fuel and air I change em twice as often as manual states (lots of fuel warranty issues with diesels)

On the Ecoboost I plan to change the first time at 5,000 miles, then possibly every 5,000-7500 miles after that. Can I wait longer? sure. (I'll probably just start thinking about it at 5,000 miles) But its cheap insurance to just get into a routine and change it. 6 qts of Mobil 1 is less about $30 at Walmart and filters are like $10. Thats cheap enough for me.

If there are any issues related to oil/intervals, etc at least you aren't splitting hairs with the stealer.
