Default Oil Change experience 2011 5.0

Had my oil changed last night on my 2011 5.0. Truck has 6,500 miles on it.

I first changed the oil at around 1,500 miles. So it was about a 5,000 mile interval. On my old truck I would go every 3000-4000 with mobile 1. And the oil never looked that dirty. (That truck was s 2002 5.3 Chevy)

No way in hell will I ever go 10,000 miles as advertised by Ford in our manuals.

The oil was dirty at 5,000 miles. It wasn't black, but a dark amber. I don't want to know what it looks like at 10,000.

For the record, The first oil change was with Mobile 1 5W20 full syn. and a Motor-craft filter.

Second oil change was also with Mobile 1 5W20 full syn, but with the Mobile 1 high efficiency filter.

Maybe it was the engine just breaking in and that's why the oil was dirty. I do a lot of stop and go where I live there is a stoplight about every 300 yards. Maybe that's why it was so dirty.

Just my experience.

It's always been my experience that oil is pretty black even after a few thousand km and there is no strong corelation between colour and the ability of the oil to properly lubricate an engine. An oil analysis might be in order. I plan on using full synthetic and going by the computer.

I wish I would have grabbed a sample of the oil. There is a testing company that my buddy uses.

What do y'all do the samples? If something is wrong you can't change the results can you?

yes

but there is no better peace of mind than over-changing your oil to keep it looking honey gold all the time

oil that is in need of a change will have an excessive smell of gasoline and / or a 'grittyness' when felt between thumb and forefinger.

When I change my Mobil 1 full synthetic between 4 and 5k miles in my 5.4, its dark, but when feeling it I feel no grittiness and it still feels similar to they way it does when new...with the exception of it feeling thinner due to being warm/hot and worn down a bit more. But thats just the ol' finger thumb rub test lol.

I think it was just the fact that it was a new engine braking in. But ill still only go 5000 miles between changes tho.
