Oil Change on 5.0

Oil Change on 5.0
1465 miles on my 2011 4x4 Screw with 5.O engine. Planning for 1st oil change and want to know, do I go with engine oil life % reading from info center(and at what minimum%) or at 5000miles? Do I need to stay with Motorcraft Oil Filter and synthetic oil? I've been using Marvel Mystery
Oil(old school) as an additive in all my oil changes over past 30+ years for cars, trucks, motorcyles, and mowers without any mechanical problems. This is my first all aluminum head and block motor and I read that adding an oil additive to my engine would void warranty. What filter and oil are you guys using? And yes, I do all my oil and filter changes my self. Don't trust the kid at the Jiffy Lube or dealership to tighten the plug, filter, or even wipe up behind his work.
Thanks. Bill4x4150

I'm one of those that still believes in getting the first oil change done early.
I went full Ford products for the first 2 oil changes (I had a coupon and the filters were hard to find anywhere else) but will be changing to store bought next time.
I went by the oil indicator on the second oil change this weekend and got almost 10,000 miles on it. I doubt I will let it go that far again.
I've never been a fan of oil additives unless it was an older vehicle that I was trying to get more miles out of (I have nothing to base this on, no horror stories or anything I read).
I hope the 5.0 is better than the location of the 3.5. Ours is mounted sideways at the front of the engine. I've made a nice mess both times, lol.

The 5.0 filter looks like the drain tray will drain out the front but it drains out the front and back making a mess. Iv never owned a Chevy but their filters are so easy to get too without making a mess at least on the ones I have seen. Maybe ford will listen to this but I doubt it I have been griping about this for many years.

From now on I probably won't go beyond 7,000ish.

I did my 1st at 6,000 miles. Then reset the oil life to 60% so I'll be getting it done every 6,000 miles. I use Synthetic blend.
Just turned 12,000 miles and the 2nd oil change.

I will be getting my oil changed at the dealership so long as they have that 29.99 service special where they change the oil, rotate the tires, and do their multi point inspection.
I used to always change my own oil, but it would cost me pretty close to the $30 just for the oil and filter. I can get the rotation for free at discount tire, but sometimes I have to wait up to an hour before they can get it done. It'll be nice to have all of this done and "logged" at the dealership for any possible warranty claims in the future.
Plus its 109 degrees outside right now, and we have had over 40 plus days of 100 degree temperatures here in Texas. So it'll be nice to sit in the air conditioned waiting room while Ford takes care of my truck.

I'd change it now and then again at 5k and every 5k after that. Most people use the motorcraft filter and motorcraft syn blend or full syn. As someone mention Ford has a $29 oil and filter change offered. (syn blend)
