Default Odd engine sound. Please help!

I took my 2013 3.7 F-150 with less than 8,500 miles into Ford service for this sound and a rattle.

Ford couldn't re-create the sound so I taped it for them. Ford diagnosed the rattle as a spark knock which Ford said was "normal."

I was told to run premium through the truck and to let them know if it didn't fix it. Run premium through an engine designed for 87octane? That's the best they could do?

Seems to happen every time it's downshifting under load. Almost sounds like a belt whine and rattle under load.

Please help!

Work with your Dealer or see another one soon. Get the second opinion.

It could be knock if you got a bad tank of gas.

Gas was from Shell. The whine in the video sounds more like a trans or torque converter issue to me. Is it hard to hear? I'll try another video.

Are you sure it's not the transmission? Check this out and see if the symptons, etc match your noise.

Mine is going in this Wednesday for the TSB on the transmission to have the noise and buzzing fixed. It happens during light acceleration and usually most pronounced (in my case) as you're letting off the gas a little between 1700 and 2200 RPM. My truck has only 6700 miles on it. They're replacing a separator plate near the valve body (in the transmission) and a gasket,

Possibly the torque converter is acting up.

I have seen more than one post of issues with Shell, but I haven't had a problem myself.
So what happened when you ran the premium? BTW, we have been on winter gas for 2 or 3 weeks now, so things have changed. My mileage has dropped about 1.5.

I ran a tank of premium through the engine and it seems to have helped quite a bit. I still hear the whine under load (uphill downshift from 6 to 3rd) but no knock.

I still don't like the fact that I'm hearing anything with a truck with under 9k.

I'm going to give it a week and take it back in if I hear the whine again.

Would it be worth disconnecting the battery for a while to reset the transmission and let it relearn everything? At least that way, the tranny itself can be ruled out or better yet, the noise goes away completely.
