Completely stock with a Sept. 2012 build date.

After reading posts, and watching youtube videos, I'm starting to feel that this is normal and just the noisy characteristic of this engine.

Thanks

Well i hope you are correct and it is normal. I would definitely bring it up at your next visit to the dealer. Best of luck, Kevin

P.S.- If your nervous about maybe something being wrong with it you can always trade it in on a bullet proof Eco!!! Just kidding!!

My truck sounds the same as the YouTube video. If you ask me it's normal. Some days I can barely here it and some days it's more pronounced. I do put a fuel cleaner in every oil change and for some reason I feel that it's not as loud after I put it in. Could be my mind playing tricks on me though.

Yep, Normal. Just had the mechanic look at it and he said it's normal. He went on to say that this engine gets so quite after it warms up, that you can here this which is normally masked when first started. Even went on to say it wasn't apparent on my previous 5.4L because that engine was so noisy on the top end, that the noise masked it.

I have to agree. This guy was pretty thorough and the engine is one of the quietest I've heard after it's fully warmed up.

He went on to point out what a marvel this engine is with all the technology.

I thought I would just toss in my opinion that my truck makes the same noise and it was something that I was worried about as well. I didn't notice the sound at the dealer or even after getting home. It took me about a week, but I finally noticed it and it just bothered me so much cause I wasn't sure whether I had something wrong with my truck and if I got screwed from the dealer.

I then saw plenty of YouTube videos that proved to me I was just kind of thinking too hard and also I listened to about 20 other 5.0 trucks which all sounded the same after being warmed up!

I will say that some days I can hear it pretty easily and other days it is just really quiet with no sound at all. I still love my truck and I heard that sound at 285 miles and now my truck is about to hit 6,000 miles after only 4 months, so I think you and I are both ok!

Mine does that too it's a 2012 with 13000 miles I also had two 4.0 v6s and a 3.0 v6 and they all made some kind of ticking/knocking noise the 3.0 had 20000 miles and both the 4.0s had over 30000 on them

Thanks for the update Mike. Just got my '13 with the 5.0L two weeks ago. I heard the noise you speak of yesterday. I'm glad to hear it's OK, and my nerves can settle now.

Ive had this come up a couple times. Very minor. Stuck my head under drivers door heard it more from that angle. Some research says a primary chain tensioner of some sort is a issue on the 5.0s as well. For now ill leave it alone but keep it in mind.

I have to say I just love this engine, it makes the truck so darn quick. I have 2,200 miles on it and just drove 2 hours one way and another 2 hours back and averaged 18.0 mpg at 70 mph. Don't know how great that is. It's the same I had with the 2010 5.4L truck in my signature. Of course Ford says mileage will go up after 3000 miles as the engine isn't fully broke in, until then.

I drove 5 1/2 hours and averaged 17.5 MPG and then on the 5 1/2 hour trip back I averaged 16.9 MPG the whole way and I was going 85 MPH for majority of the trip.

I programmed my truck and now on the highway I average 21 MPG going 75 MPH!
