No Towing before 1000 miles
I had just over 2,000 miles before I towed my first time.
It says in the Owners Manual that you should NOT tow anything before 1,000 miles.
My question is... what if someone did? Does anyone know what it would do to the tranny/engine.
Just curious.

Kind of funny how manufacturers differ. John Deere says to work the tractor hard while new to sit the rings properly. They also use break in oil.
Ford doesn't use break in oil and says to baby it for 1000 miles.
John Deere tractors work at or near max power output for 10-12 hours per day and last a good long time- so their ideas must be good. Most people hardly ever work their truck at max power out, at least not for more than 14 seconds. I guess towing in the mountains would be the hardest workout a truck gets.
My current diesel had no break in oil and had a break in period, my new ecoboost will be the same. I hope they last as long as my Deeres.
Now if that new truck will just show up.

Friend of mine towed his trailer with about 500 miles on the engine. I just got the notice of his memorial service... they couldn't find enough pieces to bury after the explosion. I'm told there was a mushroom cloud that could be seen for miles.

From what I have been told
The First 1000 should be varied speeds (RPM) with out heavy loads and no red line, But start to put your foot in it a little after 500. This is not just for the engine but for the Transmission and the rear differential too. Also this was from several engineering types at Ford. Thats what I did but I have had my truck for 11 months and the garage girl has just over 5K. on her.

I broke the rules then, I towed a 28' trailer with a tractor and bushhog then went and loaded that same trailer down with as much tree limbs as we could put on it which probably didnt really weigh that much and hauled it to the land fill the week I bought the truck.

When you`re working with a trailer behind you everyday ,can`t wait till the truck has a thousand mile on it !!! Right of the dealer we go with trailer and that`s the way it is for years now....never had a problem with engine tranny or diff, I can`t follow each of my guys to see how they drive my trucks!!
My f 150 are TRUCKS made for working as soon as they leave the lot, don`t have time to baby a thousand mile...
