The diesel aftermarket will surpass the EB within the first year of production. I really wanted a diesel half ton and I will definitely take a test drive. It had better get 20/25 mpg to make it even worth driving a diesel over gas. It will be a hard sell to me especially after the livernois 93 tune. I love the options we are going to have. Competition makes for better products

Even with the price of gas rising fast, diesel still costs more per gallon. Add some urea to that as well as a probably $4-5k option engine. Then add more oil, more expensive filters and more of them. I will pass on the mopar.
If Ford will come out with a small diesel that matches the ecoboost in performance AND gets 30 mpg highway I will consider it

Cummin's 18/23 rating ain't worth it.

My Jeep Liberty with the VM Motori 2.8L CRD and a Tune...puts out 200hp and 364 foot pounds of torque...and gets great mileage. It definitely is not all about hp with a turbo diesel tho...it is all about torque. With a turbo upgrade this little 4 banger gets 218hp and 400 ft #s.

^^ this........ at the end of the day we will all benefit from Dodge doing this.

With regards to the JCAIN/ENGINEERMIKE battle-- My weigh-in is in stock form the EB will win a drag race assuming equal curb weights. Horsepower wins the race period.

Towing? I have to say the Dodge would tow better and probably get better mpg doing it. More gears, diesel torque, and a properly matched rear end would make quite a towing machine.

Hell... my 06 cummins only had 4 gears and had so much torque it RARELY (almost never) came out of OD even when towing my 10k pound toybox.

Interesting things to come...................

Talking

Ford could Ecoboost the 5.0 and that would do it, excepting gas consumption, which the cost of fuel , oil and filters and urea for the diesel, just might cover that.

Having said that, there would be the extra cost incurred for rear tire consumption, dreadful speeding tickets and sports car like insurance rates.....

Thats Dodge, always trying To dodge the facts they dont build the best trucks and at this rate never will. let see, lets put engine in our 1500 that uses a much more expensive diesel but only gets maybe 1 more mpg, and with the sad off the line performance of a diesel. Well that should help sell more trucks for sure, FORD TRUCK that is !!!! And Can you just see how unimpressive it would be to get going if every time you sat at a light a while and the motor stops running, even if that system works right and the motor starts up when you step on the gas to go it all take time,
even a small amount of time Bug the hell out of the oweners of their trucks.
What happens if you need to get out of the way fast when you are sitting some where idleing in your truck. I know in my Ford when I step on the gas I'm gone right now no delay!!!

If they ever put a diesel in a half ton it would sell. It for sure would out tow most everything available but might take quite awhile to get up to speed while hauling. I'd for sure give it a look. When chevy comes out with their turbo six we'll have more to talk about.

They will always have their Hemi crowd, but a smaller oil burner in a half ton will sell like hot cakes for them.

Ford chose a marketable route to satisfy performance junkies and haulers alike, and so far quite successfully. But if they had of developed a small diesel in place of the ecoboost, it would have been tremendously popular as well.

Street light drag stars might not have had as much to brag about, but those that work their trucks would have snapped them up pretty quick I bet.
