I need money and mikes brain to work on a diesel electric hybrid with no transmission or 1 or 2 gears with a direct final drive. Like a locomotive but when at cruising speed a clutch locks for a direct drive.

I'm thinking a 2.5l diesel engine bolted to a generator. The generator runs a electric motor until cruising speed and then a final drive is locked for efficiency.

This is off topic, but my original post is in the fetal position in the corner now.

To a point its good. Then it becomes a detriment due to the arguing in circles...I respect Mike's knowledge but when you argue with an idiot you run the risk of lowering yourself to that level....

Default New Forum Sections - NERDS

A buddy and I created a techsupport email address that I have used at every company I have worked at since. its always nerds@xxxxxxxxxxx.com.
I love it and I give it to vendors, support, etc...
I want a nerds section on the forum. I have enjoyed reading through Mike and Big whatevers posts. I think they should be moved to an appropriate section.
Maybe we can call it future world.
I used to call my buddy in Singapore from here in Texas and ask him what it was like in the future.

My family has had about 7 of them. They are quite the unit, the latest one, a 4x4 reg cab got 28-29 mpg. You can't tell me the new gas aren't impressive lol. 4-7 times the power, twice the weight and only 30% worse mileage. We did have a 2wd 2.2 that wouldn't get out of its own way and got 35 mpg. My dad also bought an 1986 escort diesel new, it was written off in 1993 with 700,000 km. Insurance valued it at 800 bucks. That car routinely got between 50-55 mpg. The tempo diesels weren't nearly as good on fuel, we couldn't get more than 40 out of them. All mpg figures were Americanized lol

Hard to kill them little diesels! The only one I had was a 1976 Mercedes 300D 5 cylinder natural with 77hp. Only way I could keep out of peoples road was not slowing down for corners. lol Absolutely loved the way it handled but only got low 30's for fuel economy. I really think the diesels will come back in as they have in most other regions of the world.

We have a 300d sitting right now that we might pull the motor for a pump or something. It is painfully slow and gets the same measly 30mpg
