Default New motor

So I had a rod knock on my 2011 5.0 with 150k miles. Since I'm not under warranty anymore I'm trying to find a engine to replace it. I am a diesel mechanic so I will be doing all the work myself but I am wondering what motor I should get? Maybe Another 5.0 long block or short block? I'm open to suggestions

Was the truck tuned or stock? Why do you think it blew?

another 5.0 truck coyote will be easiest and cheapest I think.

What is the extent of the damage? Maybe rebuild your current motor?

If you're wanting to go back to stock power levels and stay there, I'd say just get a reman'd block. If you think you might tune it or put power adders at a later date, I'd say get the aluminator. It will bolt in place of the original. There's a guy on the 5.0 quarter mile times thread that had an aluminator. Ocasio I believe was the member.

Just to be clear, you can add boost to a stock engine. A lot of people on here have done that with no side effects. Ocassio decided to put the aluminator in there for his preference.

It's not worth a rebuild the cylinder wall where too scored and I'm guessing the guy that owned it before me let the oil get low. I really don't want to go back to stock if I don't have too. How much is the aluminator? I'm only wanting to spend about $4-5k

looks like an aluminator crate engine is $10,000ish. I'm sure there are some cheaper places. I haven't built one before so I'm not sure on what all you'd need to take full advantage of the long block. A short block is $5,300. Looks like the short block has rotating assembly though, just no top end/heads. There's a couple on google for $8,000ish.

Probably be a little cheaper depending on how stout of the internals you're wanting to go with.

I haven't rebuilt motors in a fairly long time, not sure who has best quality anymore. For a short block or bare block, I'd say try to find a 13 or 14. Should be the same sensors, but less chance of problems with cylinder scarring.
