Wind speed is also a big factor, very noticeable here where the wind blows so much and so hard. In little to no wind at 65 mph I get around 21-21.5 mpg. When the wind blows I'm more likely to get around 18.5 mpg at the same vehicle speed. Unless it's a tailwind-then I get closer to 24-25.

I wouldn't go THAT far.
It will make a big difference at 70mph+ but you won't have a 10mpg difference no matter what gears you have.

I have gotten 11-12mpg in town since my truck was new. Was told it would improve, it hasn't.
I've got about 7K on my motor now and still getting 11-12 in town, about 20MPG highway.
And I generally drive -very- light on the throttle.
Some of these trucks just get dud motors I think and I got one.

I have gotten 11-12mpg in town since my truck was new. Was told it would improve, it hasn't.
I've got about 7K on my motor now and still getting 11-12 in town, about 20MPG highway.

to be fair, some of that is towing, I get about 10 towing a 5000lb boat.
But when I reset trip A and watch, I get the above numbers (11-12 city/18-20 HW)

18-20 why is about as good as it gets with your combo. I'm guessing your city driving has a lot of stop and wait followed by sprints to the next stop and wait. While it may not seem to you to be spirited driving, to others it could be chaos.
The other day a member posted that he grannies his rarely hitting higher than 4krpm. I watched my driving and rarely hit above 2000!

You're writing off ford because you don't get any better mileage? Really? Wow. I really fear for you. Maybe you should take into consideration that the EPA numbers are done on a dyno and simulated 55mph, with the most fuel efficient cab and bed, and axle.
The EB numbers are done with a Regular cab truck, with the 3.15 axle. Ok. Lets add drag. Your A/C, power controls, larger cab, longer wheelbase, bigger axle ratio, larger wheels and tires, driving style, environment, and fuel quality.
If you're wanting to get close to the EPA numbers with all these factors in mind...somebody should take your vehicle away from you. Want some great gas mileage? Do what another member said above and buy a fiesta.

What do you expect with a 6000pnd truck, in stop and go driving, yea the eco leaves a lot to be desired when mileage is concerned. Hwy, when your speed is in check, get great mileage. My lifetime avg (trip b) 15.5. .....what truck in stop and go driving gets good mileage.

Like someone else said here, if ur worried that much about fuel, should have bought a small car.
