I was worried about modding my grill for the air flow issue as well. I live in central Oklahoma and last year we had 111 days over 100 degrees. So the inter-cooler working properly was a big concern for me.

I installed these on my intercooler:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/DUAL-10-INCH...item35b4f9fe53

I ended up having to get a variable temp thermostat though, as these were designed to operated too hot.

I haven't really noticed any difference, but hey, at least now I don't have to worry about it. Then again it hasnt been hot since I did this mod, it was 75 the other day and they still didnt kick on, I have them set to 95 degrees.

In a nutshell, it takes compress air, decompresses it, passes it through a heat exchanger (intercooler), and tries not to compress it again in order to keep it cool. Look at the size of the intake hose going to and from the intercooler...!?! So even in Texas, when you go for a ride and it's hot outside, your tranny shows a temp of 195 F, and all, when you'll put your hand on the intercooler, it should be cool to the touch. There won't be frost like on my system, but it should be cooler than the air.

If you want to feel the difference, put the back of your hand on your radiator and then on the intercooler...

Are you saying you think the intercooler "decompresses" the air?

Don't you think that would defeat the purpose of the turbo's?

The intercooler does not "decompress" the air, it simply removes heat through conduction (mechanical process). The metal is the heat transfer media, the metal is cooler than the air passing over it, so it cools the air and the air heats up the metal, which is cooled by the ambient air flowing over it.

What does working on F18's have anything to do with this......from your post, it is a good thing you aren't designing them

LOL, you wasted your money! Sitting in traffic you aren't making boost, you are not pressurizing air, so you are not creating heat.

The only thing you may do with those is help with heat soak, which given the size or our system, won't be a problem. Also, air to air system aren't really susceptible to heat soak (like air to water systems). When you are going down the road you are pushing way more air than those fans can supply, if anything you hurt your performance by obstructing air flow.

Not considering I mounted a winch to the front of the truck.

These may help some then. Do you monitor intake temps?

Stainless expanded metal would be cool too.
