Default New 5.2L Engine in a Regular Cab

The new 5.2L they are putting in the GT350 might be a good engine for a new Lighting platform. 526hp and 439lb. ft. of torque N/A with a redline of 8250 rpm. Mated with a 10 speed auto and proper gearing it would be a nice sport truck. I know it would be high strung but it would be a sport truck not a heavy trailer hauler.

The 99-00 Lightning was 360HP/440LB FT TQ.
The 01-04 Lightning was 380HP/450LB FT TQ.

This new aluminum body might be lighter than the original Gen 2 L.

Just a thought.

That's a cool idea, but I'm going to guess that it is posted in the wrong section.

This is the best place I could think of to post this topic. It is "2011+ Engine Related Questions" and more Hot Rodders come to this section.

It cuts down on the it's a truck blah, blah, blah crap.

Fair enough, just figured with the aluminum body comment it meant the 15's.

If they were to do it, It would be no newer than a 2016 model. This not being done that I know of. I am just throwing it out there.

This section would actually apply to 15+ models since the 3.5 eco and 5.0 have not changed to speak of other than HP bump.

Any more information on if this is true?

The curb weight of a base rcsb 2015 XL 4x2 3.5L n/a is 4,050 lbs.

The curb weight of a 2001 Lightning is about 4,670 lb. I saw a few different #s on a few different sites for the L.

I dreamed this up after reading about the new 5.2L built for the GT350 and seeing a video of it running around a track in a Mustang. That engine sounds mean.

I'm thinking a 2016 regular cab, 5.2L, 2wd, 3:73 limited slip rear gear, 10 speed auto (if available at the time), the 6 spoke sport wheels that look like the 01-02 Lightning wheels and lowered 2" front and rear like the Lightning with heavier sway bars and shocks. No fancy decals just normal badging like the Gen 2 L. Not too many gadgets to add weight and cost. This could be done for minimal cost at the factory.

Maybe offer 2 options on the seating. I like the 60/40 seating for a third passenger and some like the buckets with center console. They offered a similar seating option on the 93-95 Lightning.

Thanks, NASSTY. That is the correct weight on the L. I wasn't sure on the weight of the new aluminum trucks. Every 100lbs. is worth .1 seconds in the quarter mile. That weight difference would be worth a half second or more.

A truck setup properly with the 5.2L could possibly be a 12 second truck from the factory with no forced induction. It might even get 20mpg on the highway like my 2013 RCSB 5.0L, 3.55 geared does now. The best I have gotten was 21mpg on a trip to Nashville in the summer (3 hour interstate drive).
