I change my oil every 3500 to 4000 miles. The truck is run at 75 mph I would say 75% of the time. The running rough when cold seems to be a natural quirk of this engine. Smooth’s out as soon as it gets warm. I notice load, wind and elevation change is a big factor on mileage. I was driving an 01’ ¾ ton Dodge Ram Quadcab with the Cummings prior to this truck. No matter what, I would get a consistent 18mpg out of it. It now has 230K and still runs strong. With this truck I have seen as high as 21mpg and as low as 17.3mpg. I clear the mileage and trip trackers on every fill up. So for I like the truck. Sure rides a lot better than the old dodge. Looking forward to see how it handles in the snow and ice. I am a bit concerned as it is a lot lighter than the old dodge, but we will see. With the old dodge you never knew the road was slick and you can count the times on one hand that I ever used 4x4 on the highway. And anyone that knows this country and Snoqualmie Pass, knows we get our fair share of bad roads in the winter.

Whats a Cummings?

I'm just playing with ya!! It cracks me up when people call a Cummins a "Cummings."

On a serious note, the mpg thing is just as much a hit or miss as the power thing. Some vehicles are runners from the get go, some are fuel sippers, and some are both and some are neither.Likely the dealer will tell you that you are within the acceptable range, because that is what dealers do. I understand that there is a flash available for the EB, that addresses some of those concerns. Take it to them and see about getting the flash done, and then go from there.

My mileage keep in mind I have a fx4 so I have 3.73 gear in mine has been all over the board. The way you drive your truck has a huge effect on the mileage more so than other vehicles I have had. When I first bought the truck an until I learned where the sweet spot was to get the mileage was around 15-16 mpg mixed driving. After a couple weeks of driving an getting the engine broke in I can now get around 18-20 mpg depending on how hard I really try. Mine also has the black smoke on start up which really doesnt bother me at all while its under warranty. But just give the truck time to break in an you will figure a trick or two out an then check the mileage.

Default Mileage

I have a 4x4 XLT Screw with the 3.73's and pretty much like everyone else posted on here at 60mph I can do 21-22mpg while at 70mph it seems to hang between 18-19.... I'm getting the mpg you're posting when I'm running 80+.

This is with 2300 miles.

Engine does get crappy gas mileage when its cold though... so if making short trips then you're certainly going to have crappy fuel economy.

I agree.
Mpg has been stable from day one.
20mpg at 60....drops from there!
On another note if the op was getting close to 20mpg with his Hemi he shoulda kept it cause that indeed was a rare find!

Those numbers do sound a little low even for a new off the lot truck. Since you have the 3.55 you should be getting good gas mileage all around. There is a break in period but I haven't seen any changes since I passed 1500 miles. I have a XLT 4x4 screw with 3.55 ecoboost now with 2300 miles. My first tank was in mid 15; next tank was in the high 16s and since then It's been over 18 mpg. Interstate at 70 I see 20+. I do mostly in town driving and my to and from work yesterday was 63 miles at 19.4 mpg. First thing for me is I use cruise control everywhere! I travel at posted speed limit and try to stay out of boost. If it doesn't improve I'd take it in for a PCM flash.

It's always a crap shoot buying a new truck. One would hope that when driving conservatively you would at least gt the EPA fuel mileage. My truck jumped in mileage at the 3000 mile range but I have the 5.0 so you can't compare there. I would be ragging big time on the dealer doorstep. I also would do a test drive with a identical truck and then duplicate the route with yours for comparison if they feed you that "within normal range" BS.

I live in KS too and get between 19 & 21 running up and down I-135 between Salina & Wichita.

Actually averaged 20.7 on a trip from Salina, to Wichita. back to Salina. then to Pratt. and finally back to Salina. That was with less than 1000 miles on the odo.

Sitting just shy of 3000 now with no noticeable change from the day I brought it home.

I'd say there is something awry and definitely take it to the dealership and have it looked at.

Mine smokes like crazy when cold and has 23K miles, no issues and mileage got its best around 15K +-.

I have a screw fx4 with 1900 miles now. Im getting 16-17 around town with some short highway trips to work. Tonight i filled up in a small town outside of where i live and drove about 6 miles at 57mph most the way with the cruise on. I averaged 24mpg when i pulled in the garage. Granted this was a very short trip but it is a good estimate of the fuel mileage on the hwy. The grade included rolling hills with no wind. Previous tank was 87 oct and i had just filled up with 91 no ethenal in either tank.

2 weeks ago we towed our TT a total of about 150 miles with a hard drive into the wind half the way. The truck feels different since then and seems to be getting a little better mileage but its hard to tell yet. The truck was in the boost and was pulling hard all the way home up and down hills, with the wind and a 5900lb TT behind. I think this workout really helped break in the truck.

What kind of gas are you using? Is it from a busy newer station and non ethenal?

If your getting several mpg under this id take it in. Maybe if you are smoking at startup, have black soot all over and are getting poor mpg you have a boost leak or something. Keep taking it in until they figure it out. People buy these ecoboost engines for the fuel mileage. Ford should be sensative to this issue IMO.
