I put the stock one back on and just got done taking it for a drive. I noticed the same knocking sound at the exact same time when it would do it with the CAI on. I think it did knock before I put it on and I just didn't notice. I think it was one of those cases where I didn't notice it because I wasn't looking for anything wrong. I'm leaving it stock for the weekend and taking it to the dealer on Tuesday. Thanks for all of the help guys, I don't know what I would do without this forum.

Def let us know, because I might be buying a cai if it can move that much air!!! I hope you get this worked out.

Your wasting your money unless you like the sound. Think of it this way if your sitting on the couch do you need more air to breathe? If you go to the fridge for a beer do you need more air? If you jog a mile you may need more to get more power. If you run you need more to make more power. Economy gains are not going to be made by a a air filter when you can do as well with the stock filter.

Lol wasn't even thinking of the lean part but in that case you put gas in the windshield washer jug and squirt the extra fuel that way.

sounds like you are getting some unmetered air. look at your MAF to make sure you didn't damage that thin wire on it or if it is dirty. does your CAI use and oiled air filter? some CAI need a tune for flowing too much air and need to change fuel trim levels. usually brings in lean code. MAF sensor is very fragile and some times just clocking it will change the readings. I am not familiar with 3.7 truck but fool with mustangs with 4.6 and 5.0. even some CAI that claim no tune end up bringing in a check engine lite. if it does not require a tune it does nothing but add a little sound and looks. just put your stock air box back on and see if still does it, then you probably damaged your MAF sensor.

Update: I ran it for three days now driving it as easy as possible. There is no more knock at all. I contacted airaid tech support and they told me that sometimes it takes a few days for the system to fully adjust. I ordered the dry filter and they sent me an oiled one to try out to see if it helps. The oiled filter has not arrived yet but the knocking has gone away.
Do oiled filters cause problems on the newer model trucks? I had one on my 02 but I didn't like how the "recharge kit" costs as much as the filter.
