Default Need to data log or not?

Ok I see all this talk about data logging for a tune and asking for revisions. I have always been a canned tune guy. Looking at a few of the nicer canned tunes and a new x4. If I order a 5star, or mpt or ssi or other top tune do I need to worry about data logging or can I just buy it, load it and drive?

Have had edge tunes, super chips, etc is past and I just loaded them and drove....

Yes you need to datalog every tune, there has only been 2 tunes I've received that came ready to go, that was 5star and innovative diesel (ecoinjection).

MPT came super safe with negative knock all over the place. Only after a few revisions is it at zero knock with a couple blips of .5 and 1. So according to some, i should be making decent power.

Yours did, but a few others didn't, so data log.

I agree Ski. Ever since I got the SCT I've logged everything.

So I trying to understand data logging with positive numbers and negatives. I get there is some subjectivity to what is "ok" but what do the positives and negatives mean? I googled and searched here and ecoboost.net and couldn't find an answer that I could understand. Maybe I'm just getting too old for this,

Negative knock is safer. I like mine at zero. According to Ski and some others, positive knock is okay and makes more power but to each their own.

You are side stepping the issue of a few of us reporting positive KR of 7.5 to 10 from our MPT tunes. That is high by everything I have read and higher than stock. I have 3 other tune brands that don't come close to that so my truck is not an anomaly. He needs to data log to be sure.
You are also taking what I said out of context which is that a little knock is normal to determine whether more timing should be added or not. The tunes I am comfortable with have a narrow KR window and my MPT tune has large swings in the KR and I don't think that is okay at all. When I get back to MPT, I will data log and ask for revisions.

But what is a positive or negative knock?

I'm taking nothing out of context. It has been said that MPT has increased the window to read knock over that narrow range of other tuners. I'm trying not to enter that debate. I say log it all. You say MPT is garbage with outrageous knock but none of your others are that way. Maybe your other tunes just have the blinders on, make sense? If that's not the case, whatever. I've logged MPT from the base file up to what I have now and it's never had a problem. I did the same for another truck and it was great as well. I am just saying that I agree with you, log it, if it's knocking then get a revision.
