But if they kept doing it(pausing it at the right time) the miles would go up but the MPG would remain high when it reality it is not that high.

idk like to know how this happened on yours. My truck was built in march too. but i have to manually turn my gear indicator lights on each time i start the truck.

I don't believe it. all you gotta do is press the + or - button to get them to show until you kill it. It doesnt have to be in manual mode and I dont' believe for a minute that yours "just started staying on by itself" I say BS

Have you had the truck in the Ford shop for *anything*? When I had my PCM reflashed it also updated the SYNC system even though I know they didn't touch the system.

And I got bored after 8 miles of playing with the pause button But I could make it say 99.9 MPG for a thousand miles if I *really* wanted to - that was the point of the post.

Go into your settings and turn on the "remember menu" setting. If you have it on remember, it will come on next time......or off depending on how you had it the previous time.

There seems to be a mix up somewhere when someone thought that a flash is what turned this on. I'm pretty sure it's always had this option.

HMMM. I guess I do not have that feature you are talking about. All I can find on mine is,,,,,, Settings>Vehicle>Menu Control>Standard/Memory ON.

I have found this in the manual:
Transmission indicator display
The transmission gear indicator displays in the right side of the message
center when using the SelectShift Automatic™ transmission feature. This
display will not be shown in all screen modes. For example: when
programming certain vehicle features or in certain information menus.

Not sure what it means by "using the transmission feature. Other than pressing the +/- buttons manually on the gear shift lever.

I am not going to have the dealer do a flash just to turn on the display and take a chance of them screwing something up. Sometimes I just don't trust them in doing the right thing.
Sorry for getting off topic.

I've tried the thing where you kill the truck with the indicator on. Problem is that as soon as I put it in Park, the indicator goes back off, so when I kill it it's off. No surprise that it's off next time I start it.

I also tried putting the memory on. It doesn't make the indicator stay on either. All that does is let you toggle screens using the up and down buttons instead of going back to the main menu.

The reflash does more than just the gear shift indicator - it also appeared to give the engine faster response (I couldn't break the tires loose while rolling before), and it absolutely cut down on the amount of brown smoke coming from the tailpipe at a cold engine start. There's still a little there, but nothing like the original setup.
I think it also made a few nice changes to the SYNC radio system, like being able to turn the volume past 45% in MyKey mode when talking on a BT telephone.

I'd say definitely worth it to have the computer reflashed.
