mechanicboy - Yes, or you can do what I did and just turn on the a/c while adjusting the temperature to full heat to keep the fans on before a race

If you're really concerned you can pull the plug to the a/c clutch or take the belt off and there would be no chance of added drag or heat (unless when you took the belt off the clutch remains engaged then it would pull from the alternator until you turned it off.

crazydubc - Alright, stupid question since i can not seem to find the answer on Google nor the manual. What is the coolant quantity on the 3.5l?
(owner's manual) Don't have one -OR- would like a digital, searchable desktop document?

Yeah I looked and didn't see it the first time so I did a search... However it only showed 8 entries for 'coolant' and that page wasn't one of them. If i am doing the conversion right, it takes 4.1 gallons to fill that puppy.. Seems like an expensive investment especially when you add the cost of the flush...but I guess if it improves longevity and gives a slight performance boost, it might be worth it.

Flushing the entire coolant system is not necessary for installing a low temp Tstat. Unless you want to alter the ratio to add more H20 or an agent to increase cooling over the usual 50/50 mix.
With some fast hands you lose about 1 gal or so of coolant doing the install. A gal of Motorcraft orange coolant is around $20. Cut it 50/50 with distilled water and you have 2 gal of mixed coolant for around $24.

Ok, gotcha. Thats awfully expensive. There are a lot of guys on here pulling significant loads (travel trailers, 5th wheels) in hot climates on the stock TStat and coolant mix with no issues. Only seems to be the extreme climates in the SW US in summer with steep long grades that really challenge the EB's cooling ability.
