lookin for Ford technician
I'd like to hear from a ford mechanic if an Eco Boost is programmed for breakin.I've read where after X amount of miles my mileage will get better. Is this in fact the case, thanks

better looking than geno
Not a ford mechanic, though I highly doubt any of them would have proof from ford. With that said it seems pretty consistent that most people are gaining mileage with time. Plus warmer weather is arriving, it will pick up for that.

Page 400 of my `12 owners manual implies that to ignore FE the first 1k miles (due to break in) and best FE will not happen until after 2k-3k miles.
My wife's `13 Fusion manual says the same.

All engines get more fuel efficient and powerful after breakin. The old "programmed different for breakin" myth has been around for a long time and misapplied to virtually every new engine released.

In fact, many don't even believe my 08 tundra ran a 13.90 stock, but it did it with only 300 miles on the clock.

This Eco fuel economy thing has been beaten to death, but I can't help myself, so anyway...
I test drove 2 Eco's in Nov/Dec of '11. FE sucked on both trucks during the test drives. Picked up my truck in Feb of '12. Initially economy sucked the first 700 miles or so and then gained about 2 mpg. I assumed the engine/drivetrain was loosening up a little.
Then beginning of last Nov my FE tanked by about 2-3 mpg. I chalked it up to maybe the slightly larger tires that were recently put on, but I was not happy. 2k miles this winter and I could barely break 14 mpg on the highway.
Funny thing though, about two weeks ago, the FE increased about 2 mpg. Finally dawned on me that it was about the same time last year that it had done the same thing. I didn't really necessarily believe in the whole winter gas thing until now. There may be something to it....that and warmer temps affecting it.
This is my 7th f150 and this truck is the touchiest SOB when it comes to FE. Gotten anywhere from 8 mpg(towing) to 21 mpg several times going through Yellowstone National Park. Best thing for me to do is shut off the damn FE display and just drive it.
