That low mpg figure they quoted was only for one portion of the test, not overall. And it looks like was under acceleration and not a steady cruise. So what's the point in that? Or am I reading it wrong?
I agree with the above, if I was hooked up 90% of the time I might want that 5.0 or 6.2.
People are pulling the information they want to out of this test, no surprise that napoleon complex 5.0 owners were the ones to post this and focus on a minute detail that "makes" their argument.

I own the 4.6 and have no invested bias towards either.

I do think pickuptrucks slanted it towards the 5.0 if you have any desire for towing and the EB if you plan to use the truck as an urban warrior. If you read the 5.0 review then it is clear which the writers preferred as there was nothing but praise in that review. (maybe at fault of high expectations from ford advertising??)

I think they are both great trucks and no one should ever buy for "good gas mileage".

Its such a hard decision to choose between the 2 (glad i don't have to just yet as I love the little 4.6).

ps.. Neither the 5.0 or EB is a good choice for frequent 9k lb towing. This test is atypical and I still would like to see some real world comparisons of the 5.0 and EB at around 5K lb trailer.

ps#2 two stroke for the win...sorry 4 strokers

PUTC picked the horse they were going to ride from the very first test of the 2011 F150s. I personally went into my buying experience totally dismissing the EcoBoost because it sounds like crap and carries the stigma of being a V6. When the Ford tour for the 2011s came to Chicago I went and test drove every engine and was surprised at how much I liked the EcoBoost despite its crappy sound (ie non-existent) and the fact that it is DI and turbocharged (which has gone less than spectacularly for my buddies who are almost all VW fanboys). That said, it piqued my interest enough to demand an overnight test drive of FX4s with the exact same specifications except for engine (thanks Fox Ford, hope no one bought their FX4 supercrews from there with 300+mi on them ). After this extended test drive I couldn't convince myself or my wife to go with the 5.0 despite the intoxicating exhaust note and my preference for naturally aspirated port injected engines. The EcoBoost was that good. I may come across as an EB fanboy in a lot of the threads on F150 Forum, but I truly believe that all of the 2011 F150 engines are spectacular (sorry, not a fan of the mod motors). I just hate the obvious trolling of the EB that a particular few 5.0 owners have to inject in almost every EB thread.

PS: Eff CARB and their destruction of the 2-stroke, 4 strokes suck a fat one.

It's like the people who love to spout off peak torque and hp numbers. Im in a truck that will use the whole rpm band, I want to know the average numbers over the whole rpm range and see the curve.
Not trying to start another vs. discussion, I like the 5.0 too. They didn't drive like I do so that article doesn't apply to me. I don't do bonzai runs up long mountain grades and then wonder if my mileage is good, I just maintain speed.

Annoying little minute detail isn't it?

"If you’re going to tow a trailer regularly around geography like the Midwest, we’d suggest the 5.0-liter as a better choice. The 5.0 gets better fuel economy in that scenario."
Mike Levine http://news.pickuptrucks.com/2011/04...-6-part-1.html

Who is Wed? He sounds like a real idiot or website writer with 1st grade level spelling. Especially when he writes from California about how a truck should be used in the Midwest........

Classic response, when facts from controlled tests show don't support your position resort to personal attacks and name calling.

Who is Wed? Just a concern troll.

Controlled tests? You mean tests almost a month apart using completely different specifications of truck are considered controlled now? Also, I fail to see how a trip from California to Colorado through AZ and NV would be in the least bit applicable to towing in the Midwest. PUTC will prove to me that they aren't FOS when they actually do the eddy current dyno test Mike Levine promised on this board, although I suspect they will still be unable to acquire trucks with the same specifications.

I call a spade a spade and in addition to being a concern troll (morphing to a blatant troll), you lack the ability to form a simple argument (or type). I won't ignore you like you pleaded me to when I first exposed your BS, but I will continue to prove your arguments unbecoming of a bipedal primate.
