If you're not considering Torrie at Unleashed Tuning you're making a big mistake....

thanks for all the feedback so far....with livernois, is it recommended to go back and load the tow tune for towing ( and at what weight is the "safe point" ) it does seem livernois has the performance edge, but, im really looking for everyday drivability and reliability ...the $150 diff in price isnt the facotr, but hate to spend it if not needed...I read where with livernois u have 4 tunes on programmer now and 8 more available ( is this correct? no more downloading from the internet for each tune? )
I am sure with both economy tunes, its more like driving a standard v6, getting better economy, but seems that both even in a performance mode gets better fuel mileage than stock,,,keep input comin, and thanks again...

I highly doubt there is anyone out there who has tried both of these specific, maybe one or two people.. You can honestly only gain so much on a tune alone before other limiting factors kick in. With that being said here's my opinion on the Livernois product:

Honeslty the livernois tunes are so good once you figure the octane you want to run you will run the performance or the towing tune, you really don't need "x" such brands and "x" such tuners on the device. As far as driveability I have yet to see anyone really complain about the day to day characteristics in the threads on Livernois, I know I have zero complaints. I have towed our dump trailer, our snowmobile 20+5' enclosed, and our boat and it pulls with little to no grunt usually just set the cruise and go, no complaints and was the reason I got Ricks tunes to begine with, the fact he has a tow tunes seperate from the performance tunes make me think his tunes are designed more for what they are and hopefully safer.

With his sale going right now for the downpipe and the tuner I know what route I would be going, but then again I have been a happy customer of Livernois tunes for 5400 of the 5600 miles on my truck, ony complaint is that in the tune (especially his 91 or 93v2) he forgot to turn down the rear wheel wear patterns as the rubbers will not last long just showing friends what this truck will do.

I think you guys are taking it too serious if you are switching tunes an a job by job basis

I loaded the 5STAR 87 Octane Tow/Perf tune, and it fixed up my throttle response, fine-tuned my shift points, altered the tow/haul strategy etc., and I'm happy -

If I want to go to the track and embarass Silverados I don't think I'd reload the 91 octane tune just to pick up 1 mph trap speed - the 87 Octane tune seems capable enough -

I've had one of my cars dyno tuned at Livernois before and the customer service is excellent and Rick is great to work with! I would deff go with the Livernois tune of it was loaded on the SCT tuner. I do not like how the device is locked to the truck and useless if i get a new truck. I've read page after page of reviews of the 5 star tunes and have seen nothing but positive reviews, plus Mike uses the SCT tuner. You have to think down the road like what if I get a meth kit, intercooler from full-race, or their turbo kit when it comes out. I like keeping my options open...

I have both tuners, and for everyday driving I run the Livernois 93v2, I get better fuel mileage with it than I do the 93 5*, plus it's just more fun, but when I go to the lake every weekend to fish, I always put on the 93 5* because it just pulls my 20' bass boat way better than the 93 Livernois tow tune does, the response with 5* is there more on the low end for towing, but you cannot get any better for performance than with Livernois 93v2, I highly recommend getting both if you've got the money. Well worth it

So cbvet would you say that the day to day shifting characteristics of the Livernois tune is just as good as the 5* tune? Any noticeable difference in down shift points (like low speed 40mph going up hills)?

I've got a screw with 3.55's, as far as down shifting it is very smooth with the 93v2, I hardly know it is down shifting, getting on it the Livernois seems to shift up harder than the 5*, it will grab second with ease and feels like it wants to grab third. When I have on the 5* with my boat on I feel the down shift a little more than the 93v2. As an everyday driver I prefer the 93v2. Much more smoother for me and better fuel mileage, I get 1.5 mpg better with it with my normal driving. I drive hard, my lifetime is just 13.5. One time I drove it around the city for 55 miles babying it and got 19.3 with the v2 and did the same thing with the 93 5* and got 17.8.but it didn't last long.

Thank you for the incite. I believe you are the only one we have that has good info on running both tunes.

dont really think both would be an economical option ...how much does ur boat weigh? these two tuners require different tuning devices ..correct? have u had experience with running the 87 tunes?
