Lets hear about those 3.7L's

I've had my 2012 F-150 XLT Supercab with the 3.7, 3.73's and towing package for just under 4 years now. I've put 103,000 (64,000) trouble free miles on it, and l love it. I does everything that l want it to do without any issue. I've averaged just over 18.5 (US) over that whole time, and that includes my winter driving with snow tires, winter gas and being stuck in heavy traffic. I live just outside of Toronto and have to drive into the city quit a bit. I work out my mileage by hand so l know it's accurate. So with all that considered, I think that's pretty damn good. I did do a 150 mile trip with 95% or that on the highway where l kept it below 70mph and l registered 23.3MPG.

I own a 2012 Reg Cab XL with the 3.7L.
Just crossed 100,000 miles and it has been a great truck for me.
Only issue I had was around the 60,000 mile mark when the dealer was changing my oil.
One of the techs got the mass air flow sensor dirty and caused my truck to run rough/check engine light. Pretty disappointed that happened due to dealer, but other than that it has been great.
Hope for another trouble free 100,000 out of this engine!
Also I AVG around 19.5 MPG.A lot of highway miles at around 70-75 MPH.
I got 22.5 once when it was new and I was babying it.

Now that the fuel economy has spontaneously and dramatically improved from 15ish to 20ish (33% increase out of the blue), my ONLY complaint about the 3.7 is in-town throttle lag. It has more than enough power and torque, it makes GLORIOUS sounds when driven in anger (7000rpm redline ftw!), and it's VERY reliable. Do a search for problems across the various forums, and you won't find any threads with RWD/4WD 3.7L vehicles in any of the various platforms having major issues, not something that can be said for the other powertrain options. Even the Mustang guys are having virtually zero problems out of these engines.

GrasslandHVAC, I'm considering a tuner for my 3.7 I bout it new and at 98,000 i figured what the hell its paid for I may as well start having fun with it. So I added A magnaflow dual out exhaust and a Roush CAI. There is however an certain rpm range in each gear that bugs the hell out of me especially if i do not use the manual select shift. My question is- is the SCT tuner worth and do you know anyone personally with the same engine that has a different tuner, if so what are their thoughts. Thanks

Nobody i know with a tuner has 3.7 in any vehicle. In 4.6 mustang, 5.0 f150, 5.4 f150. Buddy with mustang has a manual and some mods, he has sct as well.
I would recommend a tuner of some sort. Mine features options I have not touched yet. I used it for better shifting faster revs and to account for tire size change. With bolt ons I imagine you would see even more value.
My fuel econ stayed the same after the tune, but my tires are 1 inch taller and 17 lbs heavier, as well as another 60lbs of leaf spring than before the tune, so presumably it helps fuel econ as well.

I have an sct with 5 star tunes and I can attest that it really opens up this little engine. I have 305/65r18s tires and using 91 performance/tow I avg about 16-17 mpgs.

US MPG? Thats pretty fantastic for wide 34 inch tires.
Must be the ****ty Canadian ethanol heavy cut with cheap beer fuel we get here killing me.

Thanks SinfulPride, I used to get 17.4 average before I added the magnaflow muffler and Intake modification, but now I cant keep my foot out of it and I'm getting 16.3-16.8 for the past four weeks. My commute to work is 26 miles one way and its all highway so it's pretty fun to use the select shift (Manual) and lock it in 5th gear and listen to the engine bay and low tune from the magnaflow, while maximizing throttle response. Just for ****s and grins I'll probably remove the resonator this weekend, got a trip to Atlanta on Oct 2 for the Raiders game its about a 4 hr drive. If I can tolerate the cab drone I'll keep it, if not I'll throw it back on. Still gonna look into the Tuner next month or so.

I'm in Ontario and have scab 4x4 with the towing package just like you. The big difference is the 91 octane with the 5 star tune. With the 87 perf/tow tune I was averaging 15 mpgs . In the end it's costing me about the same a week in gas but the 91 tune really puts a smile on my face.
