Lets hear about those 3.7L's

I have the sct tuner with 5 star tunes on it and it pulls my 5000 pound travel trailer easily on the 87 perf/tow tune. This spring I moved up to 305/65r18s and felt my truck was a little more sluggish. So when i went camping a few weeks ago I switched over to the 91 perf/tow tune and it towed my trailer flawlessly.

It has great power and can easily do 22.5 - 23 MPG on the highway. I've done a couple thousand miles on the highway for road trips and the MPG is what they claim even with the SCREW and 3.73 gears at 65-70 MPH.
The city is another story. I have to struggle to get 17. If I drive 'normally' without mashing the gas pedal I'm at about 14.5 - 15. That said MPG isn't a deal breaker for me and neither is the money. It gets the job done nicely, less parts to break, 2 less plugs, and plenty of room to do engine work, etc.
I have hauled light to moderate loads with no problem. Will be pulling an enclosed trailer on my next trip. These days the remaining midsize trucks on the market don't compare to the F150 3.7.
My main gripe is SCREW 3.7 cannot be bought with 4wd.

I get 17.5 city when I do drive for several hours on the highway I average 21

251,000 on my 3.7. Runs great 20-23 mpg average. I bought it 3 weeks ago with 259,500 on the odometer. It appears to have been well taken care of for a fleet vehicle.

Here is what I posted in the Ford Transit (fullsize van not connect) page at the end of August after my vacation:
Just got back from a trip from Winnipeg Manitoba, to Kelowna British Columbia.
2014 F150 SCAB 4x4 3.7 with 3.73 gears, 235/80/17 load e BFG ko2, cab height fiberglass topper with low profile roof rack. 250#s of gear in truck, #2500 tent trailer in tow. Saw a best of 17 US mpg, and a worst of 12 US mpg. Speeds between 62 and 75 mph.
I really do not see how you guys are averaging 17 mpg or higher. I average 14-16 us mpg in town when my truck is in work mode ie with usual tools and gear. I have the 36 gallon fuel tank so there will never be a highway run long enough in work kit to see.
On this last road trip, the gear in truck weighed a lot less than work mode, but I towed a pop up camper. Even though I often forgot the trailer was there, it has some drag and 2500# of weight. I got the worst economy in Saskatchewan both ways, it is rolling hills and not a tree for hundreds of miles, and windy. Thats where i was getting my 12-14mpg highway at around 65-70mph.
The 3.7 is certainly adequate. My biggest complaints before the tuner was terrible shifting and shift points. Took me a while to get used to the fact its a revver. With the tuner I am happy with this motor. Fixed the shifting issues 85-90%, revs quicker too. Seeing that I had to do add a leafs, tires, trailer brake control and a tuner though, in theory I could have had a 5.0 with factory tow package for only a bit more. I know several people with the 5.0 and get the same kind of economy. Couple of them have upgraded to new aluminium body trucks with 3.5 ecoboost, I am waiting to see some broken in numbers from them.
I wonder what the difference is for you guys getting great economy. Fuel type? Wind?
