Easy enough to figure out yourself if it is the truck or you. Go a steady 40 mph, set the cruise, warm engine, warm day. Reset the average mpg. You should get around 30 mpg or so. Speed up to 60 mph, same deal, reset the average mpg again. You should see around 23mpg.
Make sure you do this on a relatively level surface, low wind kinda day. This will verify if the truck is capable of the mileage you seek. Everything else comes down to you.

Like he said. If you do a lot of city driving, it's going to suffer to. It likes the open road. Also the mileage will get better after a few thousand miles when it gets broken in. Hope it (and it should)gets better for you.

New to the forum. I just got my truck 2 weeks ago. It is a 12 Reg cab short bed. My first tank I averaged around 18 mpg and currently am getting around 19.6 on the lie o meter.
I have been keeping my foot off the gas pedal and going around 60 mph on the highway.
I have about 1300 miles on the truck so I hope to get above the 20 mpg mark once I break her in! I drive about 50 miles a day to work/school and most of that is on the highway. I spend some time driving in the city as well.
I have one question though, when I am backing out of the driveway and then put the truck in drive the truck jerks forward a bit(This does not happen every time). Is that normal?

As far as the jerk in the tranny, give it awhile. These trannys have adaptive technology, and they need to learn how you drive.
You can also listen to the motor. If the rpm's are higher than normal, it will make it jerk. If this is the case, stop by your dealer and let him check it out. It's tough when it just an ocasional happening.
Your gas mileage will also increase as the motor breaks in. Mine increased at approx. 2500 miles.

Hemi is a wise man. I know I can make mine suck. Just ride her hard. I can also make her do good by carressing her. Kinda like a Woman.

Coming home from school tonight I decided to mash the gas pedal for the first time !! This engine screams at 6,000+ RPM. Really happy with the truck so far.

DISCLAIMER: not broken in yet, approx 1200 miles on truck. '12 3.7 SCREW with 373s
Just wanted to chime in about the 3.7 and my mileage. So far I'm impressed with the motor and think I will be even more pleased when the engine breaks in and sips less gas. There are some small hills and traffic around here, and I don't have the lightest foot. The engine is a screamer between 6-7k and it's hard not to run 1st or 2nd up to redline when getting on the highway.
I have put a couple of short road trips on the truck averaging 65 mph with short runs at 75. The first full tank that I filled gave 15.4 on the lie o meter and 15.5 on paper. I didn't calculate the dealership's free tank because they forgot to give it to me when I purchased it, I got it later but didn't note the mileage. I am about 3/4 through my 2nd logged tank and the lie o meter is reading 18.3. I filled it up before my short road trip and reset the meter so the averages I am posting is per tank.
Ford has done an excellent job with this truck and the 3.7 seems to perform well. I haven't towed with it yet but I don't really tow much anyway. With all the discounts last month I got a steal, and the way it looks this truck will have relatively low cost of ownership. win-win
