Just how much TQ can the transfer case take?

I got that feeling as well.
Barring any useful information run it on the dyno, run it again and again until it breaks the TC and that's about the exact point where you've reached the limits of the TC. Sorry...pedant that I am but i'm actually curious myself
As for Syclone's and Typhoon's I wouldn't use them as a baseline for anything other than how many things can go wrong on very quick stock trucks. I like them but they're largely an utter nightmare of multiple problems.

If you grenade the stock t-case, replace it with an ATLAS unit. I think you could put actuators on the ATLAS to keep the button operated 4x4. Transfer cases usually give up during extreme shock loads or unholy amounts of torque (pulling trucks). The low gears in the transmission would scare me the most, since that's where you're multiplying the torque. I'll search for specs, they should be somewhere. BTW, you will never be blowing up an ATLAS....ever.
