Japanese Parts? New 2011?
We ordered an F150 Ecoboost 8 ft bed XL on Dec. 30. The make date, near as we can figure it is first week of July. That's 12 weeks this Saturday!
With other car manufacturer's shutting down because of the lack of Japanese parts, does anyone know how reliant the 2011 F150 is on these parts?
The global economy is so interconnected.

Ouch. Had not heard of any shutdowns or slowdowns with Ford but it could be. This just kind of reinforces that the lines of 'import' and 'domestic' have been greatly blurred.

There were plant shutdowns already for the f150, mainly because it was selling so well. There has not been anything listed that I have seen recently. However the F150 does use it's US Suppliers aswell as the Japanese cars and trucks that are built here. Whether or not those parts suppliers use parts that are made here or imported, we will have to see!
I am still curious how you ordered a truck in December and will not get it till July, it just sounds a little off? Are you sure about your dates? I would think you would already have the truck? From what you listed, you are going to wait 6 months? They will be getting ready for 2012's by that time!

If the July build date, or even close to it, is accurate, I would consider holding off for a '12.
The historic cut-off date for build orders is usually late June to mid July, depending on supply on dealer lots and at staging areas.
They then shut down to transition for about six to eight weeks, before commencing the new year model build, anywhere from early to late Sept.
My sense is, that the 12's will have some nice changes and enhancements to jump/entice sales a little more in this slowed economy. And as I stated in another thread, whenever a new item comes out, like the EB, they always 'hold-back' some enhanced features for the next model year...makes you go crazy! I most likely will trade my '09 for a '12. I am hopeful the 2012 EB will have the 36 gal. tank as an option and maybe even the Flex-Fuel option too. Also, I am sure they will have a protective grill for the large air flow opening on the EB models. Moreover, as there has not been any real change to the exterior since '09, there may be a minor update of grills, lights, etc; and I read somewhere, that the Nav' system may get a face lift too?
My large regional dealer still has five 10's left on his lot, including a flame blue FX4; and as of two days ago, truck sales (their white board) are only at '4' so far this month. I can remember this dealer in years past, selling more than four trucks in just one weekend.
Just my view, we shall see, I guess?

Sorry April NOT July!
Well I edited out the mispellings but blew the message... The truck ordered Dec. 30 is slated to be built first week of APRIL.
I realize that responses are targetting that incorrect information.
Sorry and thank you for correcting me.

From what I'm reading, the only F-150 parts affected by the Japanese earthquake and nuclear disaster are paint pigments. Black is pretty much impossible to get, and it looks like Red is becoming hard to find as well.
Lucky for us, Ford offers the F-150 in about 15 other colors - and they can always bust out the Fiesta paint. Lime-green F-150?
