Default Initial MPT Tune Review

I ordered a custom MPT tune and it was in my in box today. I asked for an 86 octane tune that I could still tow up to 7000 lbs with. I also specified the "Chill" shifting.

I went for a 35 mile drive, mostly highway at 60-75 mph. The throttle response is better than stock. The shifting is okay, but not awesome. Seemed a little inconsistent but also seemed to get better as the drive progressed. The power is way better than stock and felt comparable to the 88 octane p/t tune I have from 5 Star. I averaged 18.0 mpg for the drive which is good for my truck especially considering the cold temps and the spirited driving.

I will keep driving and check back after some more miles are logged. My main reason for getting the 86 tune was so I can run regular gas and not have to pay the .15 cent/gallon up charge.

I already had the SCT X3.

86 is regular around here (Amarillo). 88 is mid-grade. Can't get 87 here.

I knew that part of the state sucked haha.

The shifting will get better. I've got the race shifting and it's not firm or fast enough for me.

No we are just caught between New Mexico (which blows) and Oklahoma (which sucks). That's why it's always really windy here.

He got a non aggressive or "chill" tune custom made for a lower octane so I wouldn't expect it compete with a Livernois 93v2 tune. Now MPT's 93 performance street tune that I got might be a better comparison. It will blow the doors of my 5 Star 93 perf/tow tunes.

Exactly. I wasn't looking for huge power just better drive ability and shifting than stock. We can't even get 93 octane anywhere around here so the true power tunes are not an option for me anyway.
