Default I'm Scheduled for a Short Block in my 5.0

I took it in months ago for a knocking sound that they think is piston slap. When they pulled the coils on the cylinders, the knocking stopped when they unhooked #7. I'm dropping it off on Monday so they can tear it down to see if my cylinder wall is scorched. If its scorched they are going to put a new short block in it. If its not, I don't know what they're going to do. I did get the Ford Rep to give me a truck from Enterprise while my truck is in the shop though. They expect it to take 1 to 2 weeks. Everyone has been really easy to deal with I just wish it didn't have to happen. I also hope that it takes care of that knocking.

Can't they just use a borescope to check the cylinder walls?

I guess not, a borescope was never mentioned.

Do you happen to have video of the knocking sound? What dealership is taking care of you? I'm unsure if my sound is an issue or not, local dealer of course says it is normal.

I stopped by the dealership today and they told me that a short block has been ordered and that it should be here in a couple days.

To bad you couldnt upgrade the pistons and rods while the motor is out. Right now is the perfect chance to do that. Or you could take the heads to get ported and polished and upgrade the valves springs and retainers too.

I'll be happy and satisfied just to get my truck back the way it was without the knocking sound.

I'm on my second 5.0
First one I put on 30,xxx miles. No issues.
This one now. 9,xxx miles. No issues.
That's why they have warranties. No worries.
Hopefully the OP won't have any more issues. Good luck

Do you qualify for the lemon law yet? It sounds like you might be ready for a new truck if so.
